Something Fun
Good morning! Let's do something fun before we get back to the current stress of the Big Thing.
In the comments section, tell me what state you're reading from! If you're out of the country, tell me what country! I have a sneaky feeling that Minnesota will hold the top spot of readers, but it would be really neat to challenge that. I'll keep a tally and let you know what the results are. Sooo . . . go! Where do YOU live?

Cinderella
I know many of you have already seen this via e-mail, but it just came through to me. It's definitely funny enough to share with you! ;)
Because I Can
Why am I so attracted to these stupid questionnaires (this one currently circulating around on FB)? Because I like "talking" about myself? Because I like learning more about YOU? Because I have time to burn?
Well, probably yes, a little (after all, I DO have a blog - or three!); yes, MOST DEFINITELY; and, no (insert hysterical laughter!), but it is my Sunday today, and I deserve the time it will take to do this.

99. Are you afraid of falling in love? A little now.
100. Posting this as 100 truths? Yep.
Now, add a question that YOU'd like to ask! Here's mine:
101. If you could choose ANY amount of money (within "reason") needed to change your daily life (pay your bills and give you enough to live on for a while), how much would that be? For me, $500,000 would do it. I think I could pay all my debts, buy what I wanted (a new truck and have a barn built) and live on that for about 10 years . . . assuming I had NO other income during that time. (Hey, if we're gonna dream, we may as well dream BIG, right?!)

What's in YOUR Wallet?
Every week or two, and when I have a day at home, I unceremoniously dump my purse upside down on a counter in order to clean out the contents. It's a catch-all during each week, my purse.
I think you can tell a lot about a person by their purse or, for those brave men, European clutch! ;) So, what's in this lady homesteader's bag? Here goes:
Now, what about that "secret" zippered side compartment? We all have one of those!
I think you can tell a lot about a person by their purse or, for those brave men, European clutch! ;) So, what's in this lady homesteader's bag? Here goes:
- Bottle of generic migraine relief pills.
- Tiny hairbrush.
- 10' tape measure. (I cannot tell you HOW many times I've needed this!!!)
- Tiny motel bottle of mouthwash. You know, just in case.
- Dental floss. You don't need it often, but when you DO need it . . . you REALLY need it!
- Nail file.
- Fingernail clipper.
- Ziploc w/ colored pencils for when I'm out to dinner with wee ones who get restless. (Bopee's always prepared!)
- My fishing license in the same (above) Ziploc. Dunno why (it's there, specifically).
- Bottle of generic naproxen sodium tabs.
- Visine.
- Tiny bottle of face lotion.
- Chapstick.
- Small bottle of lotion.
- Two lipsticks in handy little snap-top box. Shades are 'Petal' and 'French Toast'. What the . . . 'French Toast'?!
- Small mirror.
- Wallet, checkbook.
- Loose change (but not any more!).
- Extra checkbook since I ran out of checks.
- Two pens.
- Book of matches (call me a boy scout, but I like to be prepared).
- Flashlight.
- Gum. (I panic when I have no gum. Seriously.)
- Two essential oil roll-ons: 'Valor' and 'Deep Relief'.
- 5 loose receipts (but not any more!).
- Kleenex.
- 5 miscellaneous notes (no longer).
- 1 deposit slip (ditto: no longer).
Now, what about that "secret" zippered side compartment? We all have one of those!
- Two bottles of prescription meds.
- One unmarked bottle of misc. prescription meds for those as-needed emergencies.
- My birth certificate.
- Paper copy of limited info should I be away from my
brain, I mean computer. - Tucker's rabies vaccination certificate (to get into Canada), now expired (as of October 15th).

Me (That's Right, It's All About Me)
There's repeat of a meme going thru Facebook right now: 25 Things About Me. I've done this one before, but, let's face it, it's fun, so I'm gonna do it again. (I wonder if I'll have any repeats? It would be interesting to see!) So, without further ado and in no particular order . . . .
25 Things About Me
- I used to hate cats. Hate 'em. Now I have three.
- I smoke. A pipe. On occasion.
- Fundamentally, I am a very lazy person. What keeps me moving are the examples set by my folks (the hardest working people you'll ever meet!), the desire to be "a good person", and doing what's required to live the life I want.
- With our wedding scheduled for (and held in) February, I convinced Tom to marry me in a civil service the previous June. I felt quite sure he would get cold feet if we waited. (Analyze THAT, why don't you, given the fact that we're now divorced!!)
- I think I (?!) believe in previous lives. At least, I believe that there is some unknown entity that connects us to certain places or lifestyles that we've never experienced in this life.
- I have two stoves in my kitchen, and I use the old, wood cookstove that raised a family of 13 local children 95% of the time. And, I wouldn't give it up for love nor money.
- If it weren't for the solitary fact that I'll be able to use it as a digital picture frame in my office/gallery once I can replace it as my laptop, I would use this computer for target practice. (Update: considering I had this list written up to Item 15 when this computer crashed, and I lost all of those [8-14], I may use it for target practice yet!)
- I wish I could be more organized. (That's actually my biggest wish in life.)
- I think I could be a very "good" rich person.
- If I was rich and didn't have to work to make money, I still don't think I'd have enough time to do ALL the things I want to do in life.
- Caffeine doesn't affect me. I can drink coffee right before bed. Conversely, if I'm tired while driving, caffeine doesn't help.
- You will never come to my house and find ALL the dishes done. Just . . . can't . . . do . . . it.
- I designed this Swamp River Ridge house and know every inch of it, down to the 4 1/2" difference between the "matching" bump-outs that are the kitchen and sunroom.
- I will forever be grateful to Tom for getting me through my depression / years of infertility struggles.
- I am very glad that Tom finally had the strength to tell me, that horrible January day, that he was not happy in our marriage. I never would have (ended the marriage), and we're both better, happier people now, because of that. For that, I thank him.
- I'd always wanted a big, commercial strength Kitchen Aid and got one, from an old boyfriend, for a wedding gift. It has sat, proudly, on the kitchen counter these past 10 years. I have used it . . . once.
- I have always wanted to live by myself, in a cabin in the woods, for an entire calendar year. No human contact other than, perhaps, two or three visits . . . but for no more than a couple of hours (mail & resupply & news). I don't think I'd want to do it w/out a computer connection to the world, though. Nor would I do it without the companionship of some four-leggeds.
- I have always wanted to live, for some period of time (at least two weeks), without clocks. I'm interested to see how my internal timepiece would adjust.
- I love art. I wish I had the money to spend on it. I would support a lot of local artists.
- I would like to travel across America in an RV some day. (With no time or money restrictions.)
- I almost lost the nearly 35-year friendship of my best friend following her wedding. I'm glad I didnt.
- I have been to only one open-casket funeral and touched only one dead person in my life. She was cold. (Go figure.)
- I have never been able to stick to any sort of diet (not just the lose-weight kind). If there's something I'm choosing to omit from my food groups, I can think of nothing but that treat / bready-goodness / alcohol . . . and immediately cave.
- I could never live in a part of the world where spiders were big and common.
- I've gotten the autograph of only one famous person, David Byrne of The Talking Heads. If a friend who "knew music" hadn't picked him out at the London airport, I would have had no idea who he was.
Now, dear reader, will you do the same? I l-o-v-e learning things like this about my friends!

Some time ago, a blogger posted something fun they'd found in the local, small-town newspaper's police report.
I was just reminded of that when I read the following, posted on the local ISP's electronic bulletin board. I have a feeling that this is a service that NOT all of you would ever need. Besides, it sounds like a very wink-wink, nudge-nudge horrible pick-up line, "Hey, gorgeous, do you need your culvert steamed?" Hahahahahahaha! Ohhh, I kill myself.
Here's the ad:

Saturday Morning Update
Tom's been doing a lot of self-instructed physical therapy at the community pool in town, and he's gained a HUGE amount of movement in his right arm/shoulder. The big problem is that he still can't bear any weight with that arm . . . which he continual reminds himself of each time he - unthinkingly - tries to do something like heft Tucker into a vehicle (no small feat for ANYONE)! And then he's in pain, and I yell at him, "What did you do that for?!", and he's reminded that he's still mending!
Men!
We lost a HUGE amount of snow this week - the unfortunate aspect of that being that the house floor is now COVERED in muddy little paw prints. Such is springtime in the Northwoods.
There's a bad wash-out on the 4-mile long winter driveway now that's gonna cause some problems REAL soon. The really difficult-to-fix part of it, too, is that it runs LENGTHWISE down the road, instead of just cutting across it! It's probably close to 12" deep in spots, and if we get a good rainstorm, we're gonna be in trouble . . . whichever side of it we're on at the time. Although, either way, we'll be fine: if we're not at home when it happens, I can haul some gravel from the gravel yard in town to fill it . . . and if we're home, I can fill it from the pile of gravel we have stored here.
We got so much snow this winter that new "low spots" and washouts are evident that never were problems in previous winters, this particular one included. Which reminds me - I need to go out and find the orange highway cone to mark a BAD pothole on the road. It's one of those that drops away all the way down to China. Hit that at any speed and your entire axle would be laying on the ground!
So, the benefit is this evening, and I just found out this morning that the silent auction proceeds are going to be MATCHED by Lutheran Brotherhood! Holy Moly, Rocky! I have a sneaky feeling that's in direct correlation to the new pastor at the church - a wonderful woman who seems REALLY proactive. I can only imagine that she's the driving force behind it . . . as well as the beautiful handmade get-well card we got from the church (and we're not even members!).
Lastly, I've added a fun little list on the right side here on this blog titled 'If I Had All The Money In The World, I Would . . . .' I got the idea while I was outside doing chores this morning, listening to the wild birds, and thinking, "If I had all the money in the world, I would have bird feeders EVERYWHERE around here, and I'd never run out of birdseed!" So, watch it as I add to and change it. And . . . I would encourage you to steal the idea for your OWN blog or webpage! :)

Oh, the pain . . . .

I was just online looking for yarn, and ch-ch-check out what I ran across! (Snicker!) Nice - what, mini-dress? - the Ken doll in the back left is wearing! How about Mr. Volleyball? And, who ever thought that a guy wearing a zig-zag poncho would look the most normal!

I'll admit it, I'm kinda hooked.
One of the reasons I haven't been around lately is because of Facebook. I've been here at my computer and online enough, but I've been at Facebook. Are any of you on it that I don't know about? Wanna be my friend? (That's some FB lingo for those of you not in-the-know.) Although, sometimes I've wondered if it's best to not be in-the-know, though . . . kind of the theory that ignorance is bliss and you can't miss what you don't know about. It does tend to suck you in!
Anyway, a current theme on FB is creating a "note" of '25 Things About Me'. After you write your 25 items, you are supposed to "tag" 25 people who, in turn, have to write THEIR 25 things and "tag" you so that you can see what THEY had to say. Clear as mud?
The point is, it was fun, and I would encourage you all to play along. Reply to me here in the Comments section or in a private e-mail. Here goes!
Once you've been tagged, you are supposed to write a note with 25 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you. At the end, choose 25 people to be tagged. You have to tag the person who tagged you. If I tagged you, it's because I want to know more about you.
So, in no particular order:
1. Locally, I'm known as Chicken Mama.
2. When I was growing up, my family didn't have running water or electricity until I was 12 years old.
3. I'm a darn good shot with a gun.
4. I'm a darn good cook.
5. From grapefruit knives to chef's knives, I have 22 knives in the kitchen (at least, that's as many as I can see).
6. Of the above, 5 are chef's knives and, besides the one I'm currently using, they're all dirty.
7. I've had blond, auburn, brown (my natural), and straw-orange hair. (KT, remember the hideous straw-orange?!)
8. I can make my own cottage cheese, mozzarella cheese, yogurt, pickles, sauerkraut, salsa; chicken, turkey, and eggs (!); candles, root beer, and liqueurs.
9. I've never eaten a steak in my life. Yuck!!! (And, no, I'm not a vegetarian.)
10. My husband is 17 1/2 years older than I am.
11. I went to grade school in the only log school building (remaining then) in Minnesota.
12. I am mother to none; but nanny, godmother, and auntie to many.
13. I use a wood combi-fire stove for cooking & baking every day.
14. I have two stoves and three ovens in my kitchen.
15. I designed our house.
16. I swear too much.
17. I strive, every day, to be more organized. One day, I WILL prevail!
18. Some day, I'd like to live for a period of time (if not a year, then months - or, at the very least, weeks) without clocks to see how my body naturally adapts to not being governed by TIME!
19. I'm a really good snow plower.
20. I really don't like talking on the phone. On the other hand, I LOVE e-mailing!
21. I'll be a published author one day.
22. I LOVE audio books. It's the only way I get to "read" books these days.
23. I love to crochet. I wish I knew how to knit.
24. I have two tattoos.
25. I was born 100 years too late.
I thought this list would be difficult to make, but it wasn't. Does that mean that I'm an egotistical person?

The Power of 7
I stole this from DivaHick's blog who stole it from the Sewing Is Like Chocolate blog.
7 Things I'd Like To Do Before I Die . . . .
1. Whether I actually am or not, to FEEL organized.
2. Continue nannying for / taking care of little children.
3. Own a cow and have a real-life barn.
4. Own and regularly ride a horse.
5. Live in the bush, without people except my husband and the occasional visitor, for at least 1 year.
6. Feel what it's like to really punch someone. (Except w/o all the negative repercussions.)
7. Have someone drop by, unexpectedly, and not be emarassed by the state of ANYTHING around here (house, chicken yard, myself, etc.).
7 Things I Can Do . . . .
1. Plow snow.
2. Type quickly.
3. Cook fairly well.
4. Butcher chickens.
5. Shoot a gun (well!).
6. Cheer others up.
7. Host a mean pub party.
7 Things I Can't Do . . . .
1. Ride a horse well.
2. Run / Jog like the wind.
3. Fit into my high school jeans. (Or my in-my-20s jeans. Or my . . . !)
4. Whistle loudly through my fingers.
5. Shoot a deer (although I've never cared to try).
6. Keep the house clean all the time.
7. Not feel guilty for not being able to 'Do It All'.
7 Things That Attracted Me to My Hubby . . . .
1. M-m-mmmm: z-e-x-y!
2. He didn't mind that the temperature was -40 F when we met.
3. He was volunteering at a dogsled race (as I was) when we met.
4. He borrowed and ate with my spoon out of the same bowl of soup.
5. He was (is) extremely fit and a marathon runner. VERY dedicated to his craft. (Finished in the Top 100 of the Ironman!)
6. I thought he had money. (Okay, I'm kidding. Kinda. I think.)
7. He was attracted to me.
7 Things I Say Most Often
1. Like. "Didn't he look, like, really good?"
2. "Maisy, leave it!" (Our one dog has skin allergies, and she chews on her feet . . . and other, less-desirable, parts.)
3. "You know what I mean?"
4. "Is that the phone?" (You can hardly hear the phone ring in our house.)
5. "Oh, I'm exhausted / tired."
6. "SOME day I'm gonna get organized!"
7. "SOME day I'm gonna get caught up!"
7 Celebrity Crushes . . . .
1. Sean Connery. I would lick his shoes.
2. Brad Pitt in 'Legends of the Fall'.
3. Daniel Day Lewis in 'Last of the Mohicans' and 'The Boxer' (but wasn't he icky in 'There Will Be Blood'?!)
4. Angelina Jolie (Oh . . . wait. Besides, she wouldn't look twice at me.)
5. Viggo Mortenson. M-m-mmm! (Especially in 'A Walk on the Moon'.)
6. Antonio Banderas in 'Desperado'.
7. Clint Eastwood? (I'll admit to a time when I dreamed about him . . . .)
Anyone who would like to play along is welcome! Leave me a message and I'll check YOUR blog for your answers. :)

Monday Morning Fun
Ha! I just took this "test" (What Personality Disorder Are You?), and - lo and behold - I'm a little OCD! (Imagine that.) Anybody out there surprised?! Ha ha!! :) Enjoy!
You May Be a Bit Obsessive Compulsive... |
![]() Meticulous and detailed oriented, you have some irrational obsessions. Maybe it's your super neat closet or washing your hands a gazillion times. You probably know it's weird, but you just can't stop thinking about it. In fact, the more you think about your quirks, the more you have to do them. |
