A Little Levity

Last night, when I was having dinner with Mama & Papa Pea (thanks VERY much, Mom!), Dad asked, somewhat in jest, what fun things I had planned for my "day off" today.  Ever the wise-acre, I responded sarcastically . . . and then figured I should maybe share those "wishes" with you here today!  So, without further ado, here's what I WISH I was doing today!

  • Sleep in.  (Something I actually always allow myself, if possible, on my days off.  My sleep last night was fitful, though, and unsatisfying, due to the heat.  The temperature inside the south-facing bedroom maxed out at 79 degrees yesterday, and so it was way too hot for me to comfortably sleep under a [duh] Polarfleece sheet, down comforter, and shearling blanket!  Time to hang the sun-blocking blanket over the windows each day again.)
  • Give myself a luxurious pedicure and paint my toenails in proper preparation for summertime's sandals.
  • Pick up a few things in the house - all that would be necessary since it's always kept immaculate, anyway (insert DRIPPING sarcasm).  Maybe put out some pretty, seasonal decorations.
  • Take a long, long walk with the dogs.
  • Work in the herb garden / flower bed just outside the kitchen.
  • Catch up on some letter writing to old friends.
  • Prepare all the meals for my next week of work, package them ready-to-serve in the freezer.
  • Maybe head "downtown" in this teensy berg to visit a dear friend AND pick up my mail.

And . . . etc., etc.  Ha!  But, then, there's reality.

What I NEED to get done today - which is too, too much to fit into the day is:
  • New cards finished and assembled, packaged and priced (and the inventory sheet updated and printed) for restocking tomorrow at the flower shop in town.
  • OODLES of work for my website clients.
  • Immediately necessary work for the advertising of the local arts festival.  Only three of us are doing ALL the work for this BIG, two-day festival.  And, I'm carrying the smallest load with FoxyLady shouldering a HUGE amount of work!!!
  • Sort, price, and pack items for the rummage sale I've been invited to join in and which is FAST approaching.  I *NEED* to take advantage of this!  I've set myself the goal of packing at LEAST one box every single night (oops, forgot about that last night!) and lots on my days off between now and then (the weekend of the 18th/19th).
  • Necessary work for another graphic design client.
  • Do my immediate check-book balancing / banking.
  • Get the hummer feeders filled and out for the season.
  • Oh, and invoices.  I can't get paid if I don't figure, print, and send invoices!

And then there are the things I really SHOULD get done today:
  • Some dishes / kitchen clean up.
  • Some vacuuming / house clean up.
  • Turning off the Central Boiler and switching the system over for the summer (for the 2nd time this spring).
  • Some food prep for the week ahead.

HEE hee, hahahahahaha!  Riiight.

Finally, I was shooting for the perfect animal sighting trifecta on the way home last night but didn't see a moose as I'd hoped (saw one another night a couple back, tho).  BUT, I did see two foxes and TWO wolves!  Whoo-hoo!

I wish I had some pictures to post as those always make for a more interesting read, but I just haven't had much of interest to catch lately (wolves at night don't sit still to have their images documented!).  Oh, well.

Hope YOU have a GREAT Thursday!  :)

I'm Gonna Have a Good Day

I'm feeling anxious this morning.  Beautiful day, but too warm.  That's weird.  Last day of my weekend, and I want togeteverything done today . . . but I know that ain't gonna happen.  I need to find the balance . . . the happy medium . . . so my day feels solidly GOOD by the end.

I tried to achieve that yesterday by writing myself a reasonable list.  As I said, there were only 9 things on it, but I did get 5 1/2 of them crossed off.  Plus, I kept note of the items I did that weren't on the list.  So, following, are yesterday's accomplishments.  Items in red are those on the list, items in blue were the extras (but accomplishments, nonetheless).

(Yes, having just gone through the list and color-coded the tasks, it DOES help to list those things done that weren't on the list . . . shows me that even tho I didn't get everything done, I DID get a lot done.  Now I'll go back through and put in comments where required.)
  1. Vacuumed flies upstairs.  Gawd, the flies!  Made some progress downstairs, but once I hauled the vacuum down and left the master bedroom for the day, it seemed like they tripled up there.  Yuck!
  2. Vacuumed flies & cobwebs in kitchen.  I never would have gotten around to vacuuming the cobwebs that were taunting me from the high ceilings if I hadn't had to vacuum flies, so that's a bonus!
  3. Dishes.
  4. Vacuumed flies in utility / entry room.
  5. Seed to wild birds.  'Tis the season!  It's so nice to see the bossy Blue Jays return to the feeder outside my kitchen window.  Chickadees and Juncos, too.
  6. Tisdale.  I included this just as a reminder to tell you about this great, unbelievably CHEAP wine I've discovered!  Here, it sells for only $3.79 a bottle - in the big city, it's just $2.79 a bottle.  And, it's GOOD!  So, yeah, the vineyard is Tisdale.  It's a Californian winery.  So far, I've tried the Pinot Noir (not bad but nothing special) and the Pinot Grigio.  The Pinot Grigio is WONDERFUL!!!  I just love it!  I have a bottle of Chardonnay in the refrig but haven't gotten into it yet.  One of the clerks at the liquor store told me that the Chardonnay was entered in a blind taste test alongside some very high-end Chardonnays . . . and came in second!  So, see:  a bonus to being financially destitute . . . discovering fantastic wine that I never would have purchased before (being a bit snobbish when it comes to alcohol)!  But, desperate times call for desperate measures . . . and all that rot.  I've been missing my favorite cocktail (Whiskey-7) as I can't afford that anymore, but I figure saving up my change (NOT kidding!) for a good, cheap bottle of wine to treat myself is okay.  The happiness it brings me in relation to the expense is exponential.  ;)
  7. Hanging baskets, houseplantsThe summer's hanging baskets are looking pathetic and need some TLC before coming in for the winter.  I started taking care of that process yesterday and then got some of the houseplants watered and fertilized while I was at it.
  8. Vacuumed flies in kitchen.
  9. Scrub kitchen sinkOnce the dishes were out of it, the now-visible sad state of the sink REQUIRED this!
  10. Put together eBay post for canoe I'm selling for friends (which took WAY longer than anticipated).  Dunno why this always takes longer than you expect.  BUT, I've had 43 views, and 4 people are watching it . . . which is surprisingly wonderful!
  11. Vacuumed flies in utility / entry room.
  12. Tripped on a rug and damn near killed myself.  Just thought I'd share that for comic relief.  Just call me 'Grace'.
  13. Cleaned litter boxHad to be done.  1 down, 2 to go.
  14. Scrubbed downstairs toiletDitto.  Had to be done.  Needs a 2nd go-round for hard water stains, tho.
  15. Cleaned up kitchen a bitBut there's more to do.
  16. Wrestled 853 pound ping-pong table out of pickup and into garageLast week, a ping-pong table was advertised for "free if you haul".  I LOVE playing ping-pong, and I've always wanted a table.  So, I brought the truck into town and met the gal getting rid of it.  It was in good shape, just older . . . and weighed, I kid you not, probably about 200-300 pounds!  They'd moved it into their walk-out basement before they'd finished the rest of the house and landscaping.  Now, 2nd story on the house and landscaping complete, there was NO easy way to get it out of the lower story and up one full story of landscaping to the pickup.  I'd asked Papa Pea if he'd assist me with the job, and I was heading back out to my truck to go get him (having seen that I DID want the table) when I spied . . . two contractors in the right place at the WRONG time (for them)!  It was PURE coincidence that they were there . . . working on the adjacent property.  I'd graduated high school with one of them, and the other had come out to look at some work that needed doing when the ex and I were building Swamp River Ridge.  Desperation over-coming shyness (I'd hefted a corner of the table and knew that Dad and I would have a HARD time moving the thing), I called out, "Hey, I need some muscle!  You guys wouldn't want to move a ping-pong table for me, would you?"  How could they say no?  ;)  Seeing how much THEY struggled, I'm actually not sure Dad and I could have done it on our own.  At one point, while trying to dead-lift it up the full story from the lawn below to the driveway above (over, as I said, lovely landscaping), the younger guy said to the older, "How's your knee?"  Oh, great . . . .  But, soon it was in the back of my truck, and I'd offered my gracious thanks and set to strapping it in.  Back at the office and really realizing what a chore that had been . . . and how I'd have been stuck had they not been there . . . I set to the task of thank-yous (see image at the end of this list).  I put together a set of my newest cards for Main Contractor Guy (well, more for his wife, I suspect) and a couple of - ha! - beers (a partial case of which Papa Pea had just gifted me with) for the guy I graduated with.  Handmade notes went into both of them, and then I carried the bag down to the floral shop where I sell so many of my cards.  The woman who owns it is the wife of Guy I Went to School With.  Done - appreciation expressed!  Now that I think about it, though, I should do the same for the woman getting rid of the ping-pong table (cards, that is, not beer) since the guys DID have to step on a ground-crawling planting of cedar (?) in order to get the behemoth to my truck.  Finally getting same OUT of my truck and into the garage before the forecast rain yesterday (which didn't happen) went much better than I expected, though.  Granted, the frame is a bit (okay, LOT) more bent than it was a couple of days ago, but I think that would have been a given before the table found its permanent placement, anyway.  But, aside from cracking my sore knee from that fall earlier in the summer, the job was done without personal injury.  That said, it ain't gonna MOVE from its current position until I have LOTS of muscle around again!  (My gawd, that was a long explanation!  Are you still with me?????)
  17. Extra poultry chores, hauled feed, etc.
  18. Temporary fix for garage doorI think I purposefully avoided mentioning this earlier, but I bashed in one of the carriage doors of the garage last winter while plowing.  I blame it on fog.  For those many months now, I've been looking at the gaping space at the top and knowing that I need to winch it in before snow (or more rain) falls . . . and before I can hire a proper fix done.  Anyway, I did that yesterday.  It's not completely winter-protected yet, but it IS better than it was 24 hours ago.
  19. Cut, stacked wood.   Thanks to me letting the chain get over-dull and despite Papa Pea's much-appreciated attempt at sharpening it, I think that chain is done for.  Chainsawing is such a dangerous job that when it just "doesn't feel right", you need to STOP.  Such was the case yesterday.  So, I didn't get much cut up, but what I did cut got hauled and stacked.  And, that's one of my new woodcutting rules:  no matter how much or how little I cut in a single go, it must be hauled under cover and stacked.  Not much sense allowing freshly cut logs to soak up any new rainfall!
  20. Searched, searched, searched for missing audio book tape.   I got through ALL the boxes of Paperwork To Sort with no sign of the cassette (NOR my cellphone cord, I might mention) plus looked underneath each piece of furniture on the lower level of the house (did find a LOT of Maisy's tennis balls, though, and TONS of dirt & dust)!  Nothin'.  Today I'll pull the cushions off all the chairs & couches and go through the stuff I've Hauled In & Dropped in the utility room.  Then, it's upstairs to continue the search.

Geez, what a long post!  Who knew I could talk so much about my chores!  ;)  Just think what I could have gotten done had I set to the next project at hand instead of taking the time to write it all down!  Ha!

A Late Start to the Day

Ugh.  Not having two (or three, ideally) consecutive days at home really takes a toll on me.  I was home on Monday and got the chicken house cleaned - yayyyy!  That took up the whole day.  And, truth be told, I didn't get the nest boxes or the litter underneath the roosts done.  That will need to wait until I can get to the lumber mill to buy shavings . . . which will need to wait until I can take the truck to town . . . which will need to wait until I can drive out the back way (which I'll check again tonight).

Chicken house, almost done.  Geez, whose idea was it to paint the interior white?!  Okay, so it was mine . . . and I still like the brightness it brings to the small space.  But, that said, when / if I ever redo the roost area, I will REPAINT that back wall red!  GROSS!

My inherited old girls and the rooster.  His tail feathers are still regrowing after a viscous . . . goose (!) attack.  ;)  They were anything but trusting during the cleaning - as evidenced by their beady little eyes peering at me here!

The "output" end of Monday's chicken house cleaning.  Through the too-small grain room and out to the wheelbarrow.
I finally got into the office (and off the homestead) last Saturday and Sunday.  I was hardly in my office at all on Saturday due to running errands and keeping catch-up appointments.  On Sunday, I focused on the gallery of my two-room office because it had been in a shambles since I pulled so much of the artwork off the walls to display in my friend's office foyer.  It certainly wasn't customer-ready, and, even tho I have SO much work to do at the desk, that was really bothering me and it felt GOOD to get it in nearly tip-top shape.  Nearly.  Still have the "dotting the 'I's and crossing the 'T's" to do, but at least it's user-friendly now.

Had to go to town yesterday (a normal day at home) because the chicks were due to arrive (turns out they're coming tomorrow).  Because of that expected arrival, I scheduled two other dates yesterday:  one with Baby Girl and her mama to visit and look at potential summertime nanny dates and then a lovely belated birthday dinner with two dear friends.

Yes, the food at this local, seasonal restaurant DOES taste as good as it looks.  And, YES, the serving was THAT BIG.  And, yes, they use only organic, sustainable ingredients / produce / meat.  And, yes, the tiny Birthday Girl behind the plate ate EVERYTHING except the one unripe strawberry!  :)
Also note-worthy regarding the food above:  this is the restaurant that Mama & Papa Pea used to supply with fresh garden produce.  (Unfortunately, I doubt ANY of yesterday's veggies were grown locally this early . . . unless someone has a high-functioning greenhouse set up.)

The lake on my winter drive out.  Will it be open for Fish Opener (a local High Holy Day) on the 14th?  I'll bet - it's looking pretty soft!
Today I have a cabillion things to do which is really unfortunate since all I FEEL like doing is laying on the couch upstairs to watch a movie or go for a walk outside (it's lovely out)!  Maybe if I choose the latter rather than the former, I'll get some energy goin'.

Tonight I have to prep, too, for the kitties' surgeries tomorrow.  Both of them go in to be spayed and get their minimum shots (distemper & rabies).  They'll spend the night and then I'll take them home on Friday.

With that, I'll leave you with my unreasonable but still "must do" list for the day.  And it's already noon.

* * * * *

90 minutes later . . . .

I just finished with a LOVELY, impromptu visit by two new friends!  (Thank you, J & S, for sending them my way!)  You know, it's funny how I say "I don't like people" (generally, to explain why I live out here), but I have met some WONDERFULLY incredible people in the last couple of years:  seasonal or part-time friends to this neck of the woods and YOU, my fantastic friends met thru blogging!  I'm feeling very rich right now.  :)

And so with that jump-start to my day, ON with my To Dos:
1.  Green tablecloth ironed & ready for gallery.  Moved to another day (see below).
2.  IroningLimited to one shirt and one pair of pants.  And, let me just say that a cat who may have a UTI and soft ironing board covers do *not* mix.  And we'll leave it at that.  If being spayed and confirming an infection doesn't do it, back OUTSIDE these cats GO!
3.  LaundryMoved to another day.  Too grossed out.  See above.
4.  Info for my cousin.
5.  Dishes
6.  Sympathy card for dear friends.
7.  Prep Mother's Day cards to stock tomorrow.
8.  Kitties ready for transport to vet.
9.  Calendar for making dogs' appts. w/ vet.
10.  Tax Stuff
11.  Cut Wood
12.  Update Calendar
13.  Client Responses - Which, of course, took longer than I'd planned/hoped/expected.
14.  General House Clean-Up (In case, ya know, I have unexpected visitors!  Ha!  Fortunately, the lovely day allowed for visiting out on the deck where I'd already - luckily - set up the deck chairs.
15.  Regular Chores
16.  Took a walk.
17.  Made a healthy dinner.

Nuthin' like starting your day at 2:00 PM!  Hey, that's MY kinda schedule!  :)

More Miscellany

Today's my work-from-home day but, before I get going there, I thought I'd update you on my Saturday and Sunday (here we go again:  that's YOUR Monday and Tuesday!).

I made myself a list of what I wanted to accomplish.  Most things took more than an hour, and I had 23 items listed.  (Insert hysterical laughter!)  But, even with allowing myself lie-ins both days (AND today), I really got a lot done and was able to scratch 11 items off my list (although, to be fair, I only worked an hour each on the ones that required more time, so those will go back on the list).

But, here's one of the things that had been bothering me a lot lately:  the dining room table.  This is what it looked like:

Disastrous!  Plus, loads of clean laundry piled here and there, waiting to be folded and put away.  And, Christmas wrapping (paper) still out?!  The New Me cringes, The Old Me fist pumps, "Yesssssss!"

So, there's still that yellow bag of paperwork needing to be sorted through, but "Ha!  Take THAT, Old Me!"

I converted the fish aquarium into a hothouse terrarium and got some seeds started.  Also started some basil inside, too.

The front yard's melting progress (taken yesterday):  it's gettin' there!  Next weekend, off with the snow tires!

On Sunday afternoon, I conscripted Mama Pea into service to help me hang some gallery mounts and canvas wraps in the large foyer of a good friend's office building.  It's a GREAT place for exposure (yuk, yuk, pun intended) although the walls (PINK?!  Note:  not his choice!) are bad and the light is wonky in the space.  Still, it's another place in town to have my work seen!  You can go here to read Mom's post about the afternoon.  She was a HUGE help!  Thanks, Mooma!!

The area I covered in black is the first wall you see as you walk in.  This would have been the ideal place to hang most of the pieces, but it's also where his huge business sign resides.  And, for some reason, he didn't want that covered up!

I'm not thrilled with the layout of the three pieces at the top right.  It's the bottom picture that bothers me.  Once I order an appropriate (new / different) one in that size, I'll change this one out.

If I can find the right one, I'll get a large (24" x 36") canvas wrap to go on the blank wall at the top here.  I'm also going to add a small table with a counter-top card display.  I'm hoping those will serve as a great impulse item, especially for those folks who accompany a client of my friend's in to the space but have nothing to do while they wait.  (Make sense?)  Too, I see that I should have put something in this picture for a size reference.  Perhaps Mama Pea?  ;)  The sunset image, to give you some idea, is 2' high x 3' wide (although it certainly doesn't look it here).

And, that's it for today, I think!  On with my Work From Home day!

A List of To-Dos

I posted notice at my office yesterday that I'd be working from home today, but the truth of the matter is that I needed a mental health day.  And, actually, I was in at the office on Wednesday, anyway, this week . . . my normal "work from home" day.  With my folks gone to the big city for the day and their dog, Zoey, being soooo old now, I think we all three wanted someone around to look after her.

Yesterday, though, I was just exhausted and flat-out ick/blah/poop.  One of my "bad days", post Recent Divorce News.  That said, I still managed to get a couple of solid hours done at the office . . . made MUCH better by a spontaneous visit from The Peanut and her mama.  I swear, that woman as a 6th sense and KNOWS when I might need a pick-me-up.  Either that or her timing is just really good.  ;)  Anyway, they had just gone grocery shopping and splurged on a small package of marshmallow Peeps . . . and brought me the last one.  That caused ME to accuse the 3-year old Peanut of being "a Peep-Eater", and so we ALL giggled over that for ages!  Nothin' like a little love from your favorite little one to brighten your day!

The Peanut's mama is just days away from bringing baby brother into the world.  She's tired and ready.  Her projected due date is April 15th, but, the following Monday being a full moon, she's hoping he might arrive on the 18th.  Time will tell, and we're all anxiously awaiting the news that his arrival is imminent!

Back to my day, though, I've made a list (another one of my lists!) of what I'd like to accomplish today to make me feel good.  You know how when your house gets to the point (in dirtiness, messiness) that you just don't FEEL good about it?  That's the point I'm at.  So, in to particular order, this is what I hope to accomplish today.  I'll update as progress is made.

  • Dishes / Kitchen Clean-Up
  • Groceries Away in Pantry
  • Vacuuming
  • Dining Room Table Cleaned Off
  • Wood Pile
  • Deck Clearing
  • Chores (Regular Homestead).  Is there ANYTHING more disgusting or stinky than the poultry / chicken / barnyard this time of year?!
  • Birds (Aviary)
  • "Fun" Office Work
  • Office Work
  • Bathroom Sink  I won't even tell you how long it's been since I cleaned the downstairs bathroom sink, but I will say that I'd almost forgotten that it was pure white in color and not a dirty beige.  GROSS!
Additions:
  • Brushed teeth, washed face, got dressed.  (Hey, you've gotta start SOMEWHERE!)
  • Refilled weekly pill/vitamin container.
  • Vacuumed some of the springtime hatch of flies upstairs.  Twice.  (As y'all know, this is NOT a one-time-and-its-done-job!)
  • Batch of laundry into dryer.  (Still can't access clothesline due to snow!)
  • Batch of laundry into the washer.  Opened last bottle of laundry soap, so note to self:  make more laundry detergent.
  • Scooped and scraped surfacing dog poop.
  • Cleaned out back of pickup truck from winter's accumulation of junk.
  • Fixed (kind of - it's gonna require a Big Fix, tho, eventually) pantry door and installed spring on it so it stays closed.
  • Ate a healthy lunch.  I love tabouli, but I've never made it myself.  (I picked it up at the Co-op yesterday.)  Does anyone have a fantastic recipe for it?
  • 2 Loads of laundry out of dryer, sorted, folded & put away.  Its ironing will have to wait for another day.
  • Load of laundry into dryer.  It's a gorgeous day today, so I've gotta make use of the solar charge for running these large appliances!
  • Ate a healthy dinner.

    I Need to Regroup

I woke up feeling a bit like death warmed over this morning.  During the night, I developed the worst headache I've EVER had, and my sleep was miserable.  I dunno if the headache was brought on by the two glasses of wine I had last night (because I had a glass of Pinot Noir and then a glass of Malbec, and I shouldn't have "mixed" them??) or because it's so dry in the house in the wintertime and my sinuses were plugged.  Any at rate, it was awful.  I kept trying to stay in bed to "sleep it off", but I should have gotten up earlier because I do feel better now that I'm upright (which would indicate sinus trouble, no?).  Still . . . u-g-h.

I think my ugh-ness is also due to having slid a bit backwards down the slippery slope that was The Old Me.  One thing I've realized in The New Me's schedule is that I'm simply NOT getting my evenings at home to either keep up on things or get new tasks done.  Do you remember me saying that my first order of business was to get the rooms of the house clean, one by one, and then KEEP them clean?  Well, the first two rooms to get that attention (the sunroom and livingroom) REMAIN the only two rooms clean.  I just CANNOT get the time to get to the rest of the house . . . much less littler things like the dishes!  I know I figured that, if I didn't have the time to work on them in the evenings, I could get to them on the weekends.  But, I'm realizing, too, just HOW MUCH contending with the snow in the wintertime takes me away from all that.

Case in point:  yesterday was my Saturday, and I spent the entire day shoveling and plowing snow.  Shoveling the front walk from the house to the yard, shoveling the path to the solar panels and then clearing them off, shoveling the path to the chicken house, plowing the front yard, plowing the driveway, plowing the winter driveway.  When I came in after 5:00 PM, I cleaned a portion of the kitchen and made myself a good dinner and took it upstairs to the library to eat while I watched a movie . . . and then I woke up on the couch in that room at 1:15 this morning!

I guess the point to all of this is that I'm realizing that:
    a)  I'm still not getting to bed when I need to and, therefore, not getting enough sleep (or I wouldn't have fallen asleep on the couch last night and lost the rest of the evening).
    b)  Being just one person to do both the outside work (especially in the winter) and the inside work makes progress move a LOT more slowly.  And, I've got to get comfortable with that fact.
Case in point #2, I'd invited a friend to dinner last night for a VERY overdue visit.  Because of the high winds and additional snow that fell on Sunday, I had to deal with the outside world yesterday and couldn't prep the inside for the visit and dinner.  So, I asked for a raincheck (for Thursday).  All day, I felt guilty because I'd asked for that raincheck.  But, the point is that if I DO feel it necessary to postpone something because of What Needs To Get Done, then I shouldn't waste a single second feeling guilty about it!  Because, as just one person doing everything, I SHOULDN'T EXPECT that I CAN get everything done, all at once!

Am I rambling?  Am I making any sense?  Well, it does help me to get it out, verbalize it, etc.

So, what's keeping me from having time in the evenings?  I'm not sure, exactly.  I know some of it has been keeping social engagements with friends, certainly.  But, what's caused the issues the other nights?  I'm going to pay attention to that in the upcoming weeks to see where I need to make changes OR make my expectations more realistic.

Too, I've slid backwards in keeping to my priorities.  I was doing well there for a while, but it's time for another evaluation.  I've had a few things on my To Do list, things I promised to do for friends, that are still un-done.  Why?  'Cause it's been EASIER to ignore them, thinking I'll get them done "tomorrow".  Riiiiight.  But, is that what I want to be like?  No!  The whole point of The New Me is to eliminate some of those Old Me less-than-stellar habits.

    Hmph, ramble, ramble, rant.

And, WHY is it that we hold such unrealistic expectations for OURSELVES, but not for others?  If all these things I've just said were being told to me by a girlfriend, I would say, "Honey!  Look at what you HAVE gotten done!  You need to realize that there's NO WAY that you can get it ALL done by YOURSELF!  You're doing great!  And, your not going to change overnight!  It's a process, and the important thing is that you're AWARE of your "slips" and want to continue to make progress!  Yayyy, you!"  Why can't we take our own advice?  Pretty stupid!

Anyway, thanks for letting me vent and rant.  I have been taking some pictures, lately, and now that I found (yayyy!) the camera-to-computer USB, I'd like to get them posted.  You know, "tomorrow".  ;p

    Tuesday

    Good morning, friends!

(Okay, so it won't be morning by the time this is posted, but it was morning when I began my blogging today.  Add in the RIDICULOUS length of time this still-stupid laptop takes to warm up and the various times its frozen up, and we're well into the afternoon.)

Anyway . . . .  I'd hoped to blog yesterday, but I started my day's tasks right when I got up, and I was wiped out come 8:30 PM, so it didn't happen.  My at-home tasks are still directly related to my New Me thinking, so I'm staying true to that . . . which feels good.

Looking at what made me late getting into town & the office on Saturday, it was the time it took me to iron clothes that morning for the day.  So, added to the growing list of Weekend Tasks was ironing 5 tops and 5 bottoms for the coming week.  I got part of that done yesterday, but my time was limited to the period between which I realized the generator was running* and the time it shut down.  When I hear the generator go on today, I'll get the job finished.

    * The iron takes SO much electrical energy that, in the winter when the reserves are always low due to the lack of sun to charge the batteries via the solar panels, I try to iron ONLY when the generator is running.

Also on the Weekend Tasks list is going through the week's accumulation of mail and carrying-through with each item.  Yesterday, that took a lot of time.  Because I hadn't had a chance to pick up my mail yet in 2011 (!), there were a lot of Christmas cards.  So, I:
    • Entered the reception of each Christmas card (something I like to do each year so that I can look, the following holiday season, to see if so-and-so hasn't sent me a card in the past 5 years . . . in which case, I can probably skip THEM, too!).
    • Entered any new (return) addresses in my address book.
    • Paid all the bills and then put each of the paid receipts in their proper file.
    • Sorted through (not read through!) all of the catalogs and put them away.
    • Entered the corresponding information for vehicle work and eye doctor receipts in their appropriate computer file and then put the paper copy into its paper file.
It's amazing how "keeping up on things" like that takes TIME!  But, it also explains the INCHES deep paperwork on my desk:  because I've just been piling all that above-mentioned previous-to-now paperwork on my desk to be taken care of one of these days.  And, as I'm learning, "one of these days is NONE of these days"!!!

It was well into the afternoon by the time all of that was done, and then I headed out to work in the garage's generator room.

I drained the oil from the generator and replaced the oil filter and put in fresh oil.  I replaced the air filter, too.  While the oil was draining, I set to work on the 24 batteries.  I checked and added distilled water to each of the 72 compartments (24 batteries with 3 cells each = 72).  That job takes, literally, a couple of HOURS.  And, as I've mentioned before, it's not pleasant.  First off, I have to wear a full face protector from acid splashes or exploding batteries.  And, that thing HURTS my head!!!  Then, getting to each of the 72 compartments requires bending and stretching into unnatural and uncomfortable positions.  And, you have to stand up and refill the little bottle used to do the filling about 1258 times.  Ugh.  No wonder my knees are feeling it today.

But, that job was overdue and it feels good to have it done!  I ran out of distilled water (as usual) and so need to go back to top-off a few of the cells, but they're all filled to a safe level in the meanwhile.

I was back inside around 7:30 or 8:00 last night but feeling pretty wiped out.  I had a bowl of Grape Nuts for dinner and then some corn chips and salsa once I toddled upstairs around 8:30 to watch 'The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada'.  When I came back downstairs to put away the bag of chips and close up for the night, I realized The New Me was starting to take effect.  I took one look at the still-open box of Grape Nuts on the counter next to the still-open box of crackers I'd snacked on earlier in the day and that The Old Me had left out to be cleaned up "another day" . . . and shook my head in disgust as if to say, "Uhh!  WHO left these sitting out on the counter, cluttering things up?!"  ;)  See, I think it might just be working!

In closing, a few pictures from Alaska.  The Ex got Explorer Guy off and on his way once the weather finally cleared last Friday.  Here's a picture of him leaving (they had to fly in and land on a glacier to begin the trek to summit Denali).  I thought Explorer Guy looked like hell in this shot, but The Ex said that he was feeling good and in good spirits.  Skiing while strapped to a ladder looks super comfy, don't it?!  (But, hopefully the ladder will do its job and keep him from falling into any invisible crevices.)

Yesterday (or was it the day before?), new friends that The Ex had made the previous night in a local pub decided that they should make a lunch drop to Explorer Guy!  One of the two fellows owns a plane, and the other is the owner of the pub.  So, plane running and warmed up, they grabbed a steak sandwich piping hot off the grill and wrapped it, along with some chips and red wine (in a plastic bag), in a bright red drop bag and headed out!

Here they are, approaching the saddle necessary to pass through in order to access Denali.
And, here they are coming in to drop the package.  Where's Waldo?  Can you find Explorer Guy?  I've uploaded the image in its full size, so, once you click on it to enlarge it, you'll be able to spot him.

The Ex said that the drop was spot-on, directly in front of Explorer Guy who stopped to eat his unexpected snack on the spot!

And, with that, it's back to the last afternoon of my weekend, and there are THINGS TO DO!

    Here I Am!

I haven't had a chance to write since last Friday when I told you about the calendars (C, yours should arrive today or tomorrow, and yours, LH, will go out on Saturday).  And, Susan, you had asked about the new header image which I said I'd used in a past calendar?  Well, at least I knew I'd used it:  it's December in the new 2011 calendar!  :)

I worked a long, 10-hour day nannying on Saturday and then visited Bundle of Joy and her mama for a short time on my way home that night.  I felt as bad as I EVER have about the dogs that day:  aside from a few jaunts out of the truck to get a little exercise and relieve themselves, they'd spent the WHOLE DAY in the back seat.  When I nanny for Baby Girl, the dogs play well with the resident Black Lab, but it was so cold that I couldn't leave all three out all day.  I'm kind of in the market for a Suburban (I need a truck with more room . . . as well as a second truck for the wintertime when the 1-ton is hooked up to the plow), and I'll feel slightly better about leaving them for those long hours when they have more space in which to stretch out . . . and maybe even play or chew on bones.  Yes, I know I could leave them at home, but then their bladders would burst . . . and, I know that they are so used to being with me constantly that they get a little upset (Maisy, especially) when they're away from me.

I can't remember what I did during the early part of Sunday, but I think I had to run into town that afternoon & evening to do some work at the office.  Anyway, it was another day that zipped by with me feeling like I had nothing much to show for it.

I woke up when the alarm went off at 6:30 on Monday morning feeling like death.  I was scheduled for some car work and my first eye exam in the big city, some 3+ hours away, and my first appointment was at 11:00.  During the night, I'd dreamed that, while the doctor said that I did, indeed, need an eye glass prescription, what he was more concerned about was my heart.  And, oh, how my chest ACHED once I finally did get up - psycho-somatic, huh?!  Anyway, I let myself sleep about two more hours and then finally DRAGGED myself up out of bed.

I switched my 11:00 car appointment to 4:00, but I was still going to be about 30 minutes late for the eye appointment.  I called, trying to bump it back, but there were no openings, so, when I did arrive there, we filled out paperwork instead and rescheduled the visit.  When I'd dropped the dogs off at my folks' on the way out of town (thanks, again!), they both asked me if I felt okayaQQQQ==E (that, from Bonzi, the cat).  Obviously, how I WAS feeling was fairly clear.

Too, I'd asked Mama & Papa Pea if there was a chance they'd take Maisy & Tucker overnight that night:  my list was, LITERALLY, 3 full pages - typed (!), and I'd been thinking about staying overnight to get everything done.  After the visit to the optometrist, I called around for some motel rates.  And, here is where I got a good lesson in honesty.

The Days Inn's most inexpensive room was $84.95.  "May I ask what you're in town for?," the desk clerk politely queried.  Instantly, my hackles went up.  Even though she sounded genuinely interested, my gut reaction was, "What business is it of YOURS?"  Instead, I said, "Ohhh, I just have some appointments."  She said, "Ma'am, by any chance are any of those doctors' appointments?"  Me (again, bristly, but wondering if this line of questioning was "going" somewhere):  "Yes, but just an eye doctor."  Receptionist, "Oh!  Well, in that case, ma'am, may I offer your our Medical Stay Special?  We can give you that room for $52!"

My mood instantly changed, and I said (literally), "Holy Moly, Rocky!  (I'm such a nerd.)  Uhhh, YES, I'd love that!"  So, the deal was done:  I would stay overnight.

I zipped right over to the motel and got an early check-in.  Then, with fast food to-go in hand, I settled in, determined to make the rest of my Monday better than the first part.  45 minutes later, feeling (and looking - thank you, makeup!) MUCH better, I headed across the state line to my auto appointment in Wisconsin.  Thanks to Target having begun their holiday hours (open 'til midnight) that very day, I shopped straight through 'til about 11:30 PM, following the car appointment (where I ordered 2 new rims & Blizzaks for the rear of the Yaris AND scheduled a repair to the hatchback for the car . . . both parts & labor [which was going to be between $200 and $300] 100% covered thanks to the platinum warranty the ex and I had purchased when we bought the car.)

More fast-food in hand for dinner (what else is open at that time of night?!), I tiredly returned to my motel room just before midnight.  (And was reminded why I don't have TV:  with so many channels, there was literally NOTHING to watch . . . not even a cheesy reality show.  I ended up watching a documentary about Area 51 in the desert.  Hmph.  So much for catching up on junky TV!)

I let myself sleep in on Tuesday morning . . . but so much so that I didn't have time to take a shower before the by-11:00 check-out.  No matter.  I made use of my second day and shopped, straight through (well, I did take 10 minutes to stop at Caribou for a latte and lemon poppyseed cake slice when I'd bonked) from 11:00 until 6:01 when I was heading out of town.  I was E-X-H-A-U-S-T-E-D.

The car was SO FULL that, in order to get the last purchases to fit , I'd had to break up the box of booze I'd bought at my final stop of the day and leave the cardboard box in the cart at the cart station.  There wasn't a spare inch for that liquor box to fit.  So, instead, bottle of wine were stuffed under the seats and snuggled here and there throughout the load.  I took pictures:  it was pretty hysterical.  (Unfortunately, for illustration's sake, those images are now on my computer at work.)

Well, the computer froze up and I had to reboot . . . but now I can’t access the Internet.  So, I’ll finish my post here on Word and then paste & copy when I can get to the iHighway again.

On my way home, I realized that there was ZERO room for the dogs, so, after a call to my folks to find out if one of their Suburbans was available (neither was, as luck would have it), I called the ex to see if I could unload some of the loot into his Jeep for the night.  I knew we’d both be at the same birthday party Wednesday (last) night, and so I could make the final transfer then.  So, that done and the dogs picked up, we finally returned home about 11:30 Tuesday night.

It was cold out, already below zero and dropping, but did you hear me singing as I made trip after trip to unload the car?  I was SO happy to be home that I bustled back and forth (to stay warm!) and sang a cheery little homemade ditty about “home, home, so good to be home”!  :)  (With the temps so low, there was no option of leaving everything in the car until the light of morning.  Anything liquid would have frozen and burst its packing.  Even at the ex’s we had to haul a couple of very heavy boxes into his apartment for the night to avoid the same problem.

Quick story:  thinking about even the booze freezing reminds me of a New Year’s Eve, some years ago.  We were at friends’ new property (next to where The Peanut now lives, these folks being her aunt & uncle), and their cabin was super, super tiny.  Matter of fact, I don’t even think the stove was hooked up yet.  Anyway, for whatever reason, we were all outside and taking advantage of the snow cover to burn a huge brush pile and try to stay warm.  I’m not sure if that was the same year that it was -25 (F) when we got to the lodge we were all having dinner at or not.  At any rate, it was C-O-L-D.  While we were enjoying other libations, we set a bottle of wine (or was it champagne?) on the tiny deck in preparation for midnight.  As the night passed, one of the women suddenly exclaimed, “Ohmigod, look at the wine!”  Despite its high alcohol content, it had been freezing as we’d been tending the fire, and the cork had pushed up THROUGH the foil wrapper and was a-l-m-o-s-t out!  Now, THAT’S a cold bottle of wine (unfortunately, I think it was a red that SHOULD have been served at room temperature!).  Anyway, it was a fun way to learn (with no harm nor foul) that even booze on the lower end of the alcohol content spectrum, will freeze in cold weather!

After sleeping poorly after my big city trip Tuesday night and waking up yesterday still feeling and looking like death only slightly warmed over, I spent the day trying to unpack a bit, get my head on straight, prep for Bundle of Joy’s first birthday party, and get some business & personal mail ready to go out.  I had a little must-do work at the office, too, and I’d hoped to run in and get that done before the birthday party and dinner . . . but I didn’t.  And, in my focus to get everything ELSE together (some stuff for both the ex and My Girl, who would be at the party, as well as some groceries and party supplies I’d bought for it . . . and the mailings that needed to go out including a stupid busy-work [is this really necessary?!] form for the assessor’s office that needed to be there by the end of the day), I forgot Bundle of Joy’s birthday present.  Oi vey.  What a dum-dum.

Anyway, I got myself into town after the party last night at 9:03 PM.  I finished up at the office around 11:30 and headed home.  That done, I could finally “take the week off” to prep for Christmas – that being my original plan.  Yes, I did have the two days in the big city, and that DID need to be done (both for supplies and in prep for the holiday), but now I’m left with only THREE days– today, tomorrow, and Sunday - to get done what I’d hoped to get done (“week”, my arse).  I’ll go in and have the gallery open all day on Saturday, hoping to catch some last-minute shoppers.  I won’t even bore you with the details of all I’d hoped to do this week:  it’s too unrealistically hilarious.  I’ll leave it at the fact that I still don’t have a SINGLE, SOLITARY Christmas decoration down from storage yet, but I hope to change that by the end of the day.  Oh, and I have given myself a small reprieve:  I’m going to make my Christmas cards be New Year’s cards this year!

Okay, Internet’s back up on my laptop now, so off I go to post this epistle (sorry it’s so long)!

    Friday Already?

Okay, it's official now:  I'm starting to stress about Christmas.  A couple of weeks ago, I thought of the plan to close the office for a week in December so that I could have that chunk of time here at home to prep for the holidays.  But now and seemingly suddenly, there's only one solid week BETWEEN today and Christmas!  How did THAT happen?!!!  So, I think I'm gonna close up for next week, save Saturday, the 18th, when I'll put out the sandwich board and see if I can grab any holiday shoppers.

On Monday, I need to go to the eye doctor - my first trip as an adult.  When I was small, I was diagnosed with a weak left eye (everyone on my dad's side of the family seemed to get it) and began a very short regime of progressive eye exercises.  Whether they did any good or not (I don't think I followed the program long enough), I haven't needed any glasses . . . until these last several weeks when up-close reading has been difficult (compounded, I'm sure, by the increase of intense computer work).  Then, when I was at NAPA a month or two ago to pick out a new headlight bulb for the truck, I COULD NOT read the teeny-tiny print on the boxes.  That experience really pointed out the necessity to me.  A week or so ago, I went through some of the ex's old glasses and found a pair that works well for reading at night.  So, those now live on my bedside table and allowed me to easily read the article on Marina Abramović last night in bed that My Girl had clipped and saved for me.  (She fascinates me, this self-described "grandmother of performance art".)  Anyway, I'm interested to hear what the optometrist has to say.

I had The Peanut for an overnight on Wednesday.  Her mama is expecting Baby #2, a boy baby (yayyyyy!), AND her birthday was on Monday, so, to celebrate, Mommy and Daddy headed down to the big city for an overnight, a movie, and some shopping.  The Peanut and I had been invited to Mama & Papa Pea's for dinner, and I've been a little concerned about the fact that the last couple of times we've stopped there, The Peanut has moaned, "But, I don't WANT to!"  Actually, it was beginning to freak me out a bit.  She's always LOVED spending time there and, often, it's been hard to drag her away.  Needing to pick the dogs up at the groomer's very shortly, we weren't at the Pea Household (hee hee) very long, but The Peanut was being a bit of a pill . . . refusing to come to the table for dinner and just, basically, not minding me and being impolite.  Finally, I took her into another room and we had A Talk.  And, not that it excused her behavior, but I finally understood:  our time together is so limited and she's at an age where she takes thing VERY LITERALLY . . . that she "thought it was going to be like this" (when we were in the other room together).  I.e., JUST the two of us.  When we're at Mama & Papa Pea's (which is, not coincidentally, most often when we're on our way to Swamp River Ridge), she has to share me with them.  And, that's where the unhappiness comes in.

So, after a conversation about that but also with a reminder about manners and following direction, she grudgingly came to the table and ate a little of the food in front of her.  Then, we were off to pick up the dogs, finish up our errands, and head home.  It's all a learning process, and I'm glad she was able to help me understand how she felt.  In the future, I think our visits to Grandma J and Papa R will come at the END of our time together, and I'll bet that will make the experience 100% better.  (And, heck, I totally get it:  that's precisely why I ASK for overnights with her because, otherwise, I, too, am "sharing" her with everyone else at family functions, birthday parties, etc.!)

The temperature rising from the single digits (it was 1 when we got home Wednesday night) to around 20 degrees (the ideal temperature for snow accumulation) yesterday, it snowed and blew, blew, blew all day.  I transferred all our gear, car seat, etc. to the truck last night for the drive into town, and we had to plow the 4 1/2 miles out to the main road.  I was surprised that The Peanut had never accompanied her dad or papa (paternal grandpa) plowing, and so I was explaining all the aspects of it to her, including the flashing yellow light revolving on top of the cab.  I told her that I needed it because I was plowing a road that is, technically, a public one.  And, the flashing light was to warn other drivers (not likely) and snowmobilers (very likely) of my approach and to use caution around such a large vehicle.  She was quiet for a few beats, processing that information, and then said, very matter of factly, "Good planning!"  Ha!!!  She hasn't even been three years old for a month yet, and she came out with that!  And that's one of the reasons I love her so.  :)

When I was out doing chores yesterday, I was brought back to one of the conversations I've had with Mom about her leaving me, as a 2-year old, alone in the house when she went out to do chores.  Mom would oftentimes get me settled with a bunch of books for me to "read", and off she'd go to tend to the livestock or haul in wood.  I remember chiding her, exclaiming, "You left a TWO YEAR OLD ALONE IN THE HOUSE?!!!"  And that was with wood stoves burning hot, etc.!  Mom said, "Of course!  You knew the rules."  (And, of course, think of homesteaders of yore - children were taught, so much earlier than now, the hazards of their surroundings and what was acceptable and what was not.)  So, it struck me as I was outside, hauling wood to the outside furnace and transferring everything from one vehicle to another in the short-lived blizzard that, suddenly, I was doing exactly the same thing.  And had I thought twice about it?  Of course not.  The Peanut is (conveniently) raised in an off-grid home, too, that heats with wood.  She knows to stay away from the hot stoves, she knows what behavior is important.  She knows to come to the door and holler for me if something's wrong.

Here she is, dotted by a few smudges of ink from our stencils and ink stamping project yesterday morning:

I took the above picture from the front entrance this morning.  Probably got between 5-7" yesterday, but it was hard to tell with the blowing winds and drifting.  Notice how I haven't shoveled the front path ONCE yet this winter?  That's on the To Do Before Christmas list.  Certainly need to re-open the path to the side door, too!

And, looking to the southeast and Tucker running in with his newly shorn coat.  He looks like an itty-bitty Chihuahua in this picture, but, believe me . . . he's NOT!

Wish I could stay home with my heating pad today.  Don't feel well at all.  Old "phantom pains" from the days pre-hysterectomy.  The pituitary gland still sends the message to the gut to "cramp, cramp, cramp, SHOVE that egg out!" . . . even when there's nothing to cramp nor any eggs to shoot through non-existent tubes!  (Any of you post-hysto gals struggle with this?)  Owwwwieeee.

    UGH.

Oh.  My.  Gawd.  I feel like I've been trampled by a gang of Mexican tortillas.  And, when they got to my head, they JUMPED up and down on it and sprayed . . . damn, I can't even THINK yet . . . ummm . . . that red stuff.  Oh, HONESTLY, I just had to get up and look at the bottle:  Tabasco sauce!  Anyway, they sprayed Tabasco sauce into my head.  Via my ears?  I dunno.  Whatever.  I feel like I've been run over by a truck.

I went to bed last night with fantastic ideas of getting up early this morning and ATTACKING the day - getting the oodles of things done that I want.  Then, the phone jangled me awake - just a couple of minutes ago!  I was in suuuuuuuuuch a deep sleep that it, LITERALLY, took everything I had to crawl across the bed to squint at the caller ID.  A local number, but an unknown one.  I let it go and collapsed back onto my pillow.  UGH.  (Oh, right I already said that.)

I don't even have the excuse of a strong cocktail before bedtime to make me feel like this.  Nope, I had (are you ready?) . . . Sprite.  Yeah, I know:  ooooooh.

I'm trying hard to prevent myself from slipping into full panic mode regarding next Saturday's open house and sale at Chicken Mama Designs, and, while I need both today and tomorrow, I probably also need a break.  To take the break and hope that it makes me more effective in the upcoming days or to soldier on through and just work, work, work?  That is the question.  But, My Girl and I are overdue for an overnight, so she is staying the night tonight, and I wanted to get several things done before I brought her home.

I wanted to get the dishes done and the sink cleaned.  Got the dishes done last night, but that meant that I didn't go to bed until 1:00 AM.  And, I had to MAKE myself do that 'cause my audio book was at such a good spot that I didn't want to turn it off!  I needed to clean the downstairs toilet.  (The cleaning solution is soaking now.)  I wanted to shovel the front path.  (She's just gonna have to deal with that.)  I wanted to clean up the sunroom a little which is where she likes to sleep, on the hanging bed.  I'll probably still do that, super quick.  I wanted to vacuum the carpets.  Not gonna get done.  Blah, blah, blah.

Today, I'm hoping to get down to the wilderness supply store to see the ex:  he's playing Santa!  I'm hoping to meet up with two girlfriends for an overdue cocktail in the late afternoon (one lives in St. Paul and is returning tomorrow).  I HAVE to stop on my way into town at the local art festival which I've always been a part of (and still do the website design and some advertising for, pro bono) . . . until this year when I've been trying to get my own business going.  I don't feel like I can let my friends down by not stopping.  On the up side, I'll probably get some Christmas shopping done while I'm there.  I'll need to remember to focus on THAT rather than, "Dang, I can't stay here any longer!  I've GOT to get going!"  AND, in the midst of all of that and the shorter day at work it will be (since I'm taking the time for the overnight with My Girl), I want to finalize the 2011 calendar I'll be selling at next week's sale.  No, I HAVE to finalize the last changes, otherwise I WON'T have it in time for the sale.  Aaaaaghhhhh!  Sorry, I'm complaining.  And, what's my new rule?  If I must complain, limit it to only those things I cannot change.  And, granted, I can change all of these self-imposed "must-do"s.

I guess my excuse for writing about all of this is that it serves to both let you, my friends, know what I'm doing right now and why my blogging might be a little limited . . . and that this will be a journal that I can look back on in years to come and either say, "Seeeeeee?  The open house and sale was just fine!  You shouldn't have stressed so much!"  Or, "Hey, hardly anyone showed up.  Your stress wasn't worth it!"

So, thanks for listening to me complain!  I guess I just needed to get that out of my system.  Annnnd, the double bonus is that my body is finally coming alive in the time I've given myself here with you, and I almost feel like a normal human just waking up!

Lastly:  let's all try to figure out the meanings in the dream I was in when the phone woke me up.  Here goes.  I was dreaming about the boy I had a HUGE crush on but never dated in high school (he's happily married, thank you very much).  He was a farmer (not in real life, in my dream), and so I was sending SOME sort of crop through a machine that ground it up.  There were two big farm families working (his and the one I was with), and my dad (?!) was giving me plastic and metal tools (or some such thing) at the end of the day to send through the grinder, too.  I asked him, "Won't that be bad for the machine?!"  He said I just needed to be careful of any sharp metal shards that might be thrown out of it when it got to the metal in the parts.  I knew that, the next day, I had to take the machine down the road to the boy's family's farm and do the same job, but I was nervous about picking the right farm and not embarrassing myself in front of the boy.

Fast forward to the part of the dream I was having when I was awoken.  Now we were in a house with my farm family.  It was made up of a huge number of women from Bundle of Joy's family (a very religious and conservative bunch) and the sons of the couple who had become the ex's and my "adopted parents" when we lived down by the lake.  Now, though, I was straining home-brewed beer through cheesecloth and Kleenex (the Kleenex didn't hold up very well, imagine that!) on a indoor picnic table.  BUT, I wasn't wearing a shirt OR a bra!  The women weren't saying anything, but they obviously disapproved (again, imagine that!).  Finally, realizing that the guys were focusing a bit too much on ME instead of the straining-beer-project at hand, I decided to go find a shirt to put on.  The women all followed me into the bedroom(s) and, there, started giving me what-for for being so improper.  Yeah, yeah, whatever.  Just help me find a shirt.  There were ROOMS and ROOMS of clothes, and everyone was helping me, but I couldn't find ANYTHING that would work (too formal or too small).  If the top fit elsewhere, it wouldn't fit over my big tummy.  When I expressed that, the women started talking about how, yes, they overheard the men talking about my breasts and tummy:  some didn't mind the big tummy in favor of the nudity while others said that they loved the boobs but were turned off by the poochy pouch.  GAH!  I was panicking and panicking, knowing we had been gone HOURS, and I was just FRANTIC, trying to find something to put on amongst these RACKS and RACKS of clothes so I could get back to my job!  Then . . . the phone rang, and I woke up.

NOW can you understand why I felt like I'd been trampled by turtles (coincidentally, the name of a popular band from the Twin Cities).  A herd of buffalo?  Those Mexican tortillas?  A vodka-swilling, bad-teethed Bolshevik?  A headscarf-wearing, potato-planting Babushka?  Double ugh.

Once you've stopped laughing uncontrollably, let me know what my dream meant, will you?  ;)
