Just Call Me 'Grumpy'

I'm in one of those moods where I just wish the world would go away for a little while.  Preferably until I've had time to finish the house and get everything in it completely organized and entirely clean.

I sorted through three large boxes of STUFF tonight in an effort to be ready for tomorrow's appointment with the tax preparer.  I used to be pretty much on top of that kind of thing, and all that would have been required would be for me to pull the 'Taxes 2009' file out of the cabinet.  Not so much anymore.  And, instead of being cheered up at the things I found while sorting thru the boxes or feeling good about reminding myself what was hiding in them, I just felt more overwhelmed at the disaster that is All Things That Need To Be Organized in the house right now.  Blech.  Besides, the contents of all three boxes revealed fewer than 5 pieces of paper relevant to last year's taxes.  Hmph.

Add to this that I'm still struggling with this damn sinus infection.  I finally called the clinic today, and the triage nurse said that if I've had it this long already that I'm probably not going to be able to kick it on my own . . . and to come in.  So, I have an appointment tomorrow.  It (whatever they give me) better do the job, because I have been fairly miserable from the pain that's invaded the entire right side of my head.  And, in desperation to relieve the pressure, I have been blowing out every single hint of moisture that my nose might hold . . . and so my right nostril is totally chapped and actually cracked inside now from the blowing.  (I should have put some money into whatever company owns Kleenex.)

Complain, complain, complain.

On the up side, I finally got the taps into the maple trees (I'm a little late!), and I gathered 2+ gallons of sap tonight . . . and that was from only 3 trees being tapped this afternoon.  That will be a fun job to play with.  Hopefully tomorrow will be sunny so that I can start boiling the sap outside (using a single electric burner).  I'd LOVE to get a cast iron sugaring kettle eventually but costing around $1,000 for the size I want . . . well, it ain't gonna happen anytime soon.

Let's hope that I feel better by this time tomorrow night and that my mood is better, too!  :)

  2. What is it about this time of year? It seems like I started with all intentions of organizing during the winter, but the more I did, the more I saw needed to be done, and now there is no way my list is going to be completed with spring officially beginning and now I have seedlings and gardening to deal with.... it goes so fast when you aren't ready for it! Definitely get some meds for that sinus issue, I have only had one sinus infection, but now I know how people that are prone to them must feel, yuck! Tapping maple trees, I would love to join in on that, fun! Can't wait to hear more about your sap and finished product! Hang in there, once your taxes are done it will be another BIG "check" on your list!

  3. Yay, for hearing of more people who are feeling unorganized and overwhelmed right now. I thought it was just me. I'm no lover of spring anyway but this year it seems worse. I've started writing two separate blog posts regarding my own current "grumpy" feelings but get halfway through and realize I sound way too depressed for publication.

But, you chickadeedle, have a hay of a lot more reasons for feeling the way you do presently than most of the rest of us. This yucky period is going to pass and your new life is going to be WONDERFUL. I promise. (And we all know mothers know best!)

  4. Hey, dirtyduck, welcome!

Erin & Mom, yeah, due to the early spring up here, the winter went by SO quickly!!!! And, by winter, I mean that slow time of year when we get caught up on everything that gets pushed aside during the busyness of spring, summer, and fall. (HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!) Okay, so apparently our winters AREN'T that quiet time anymore.

I suspect that the only chance we have at getting caught up is if we give up ALL but one of our "I wannas" . . . but who wants to do that?!

  5. You should try a neti pot. It really does help with sinus gunk. As long as your sinuses are open and not plugged you can gently rinse them with some warm salt water. Just make sure the salt is not iodized or it burns a bit.

  6. I second the neti pot - get sea salt or other non-iodized. Regular use is also supposed to keep colds and such away since salt is a natural anti-bacterial.

It may be too late for that alone to work this time, but for future reference...

  7. I bought a bulb syringe yesterday to use in place of a neti pot. Seems like it might work easier since it has a pressurized "squirt" working in its favor. BUT, what ratio of salt to water do I use??

And, thanks for commenting, Sparkless! I hope you visit often!
