Here are some shots from today's big adventure: using the portable sawmill for the first time! A rough-cut 5x5 was the result of the first "practice log", but further progress was put on hold after a couple of hours of tinkering and tweaking during the cutting of the second log. Turns out that the blade needs to be replaced before more milling is done. Stay tuned, but we hope to have another blade here, installed, and buzzing away very soon. Until then, the sawmill will remain in the front yard (where the downed tree was). Eventually, it will have a permanent home (with a frame built underneath it) back by the trapper cabin.
