I'll admit it: I have absolutely NO idea how to identify a bird by its nest. I need a reference book, no doubt. Even my searching for an online bird NEST identification site turned up nothing.
So, any ideas, anyone? It's probably about 4" across in size and almost equally as deep.
That's another fun thing about spring - when it's warm enough to take walks outside and REALLY look around - you can spy things like this that you'd never see in summer!

It is probably an American Goldfinch.

It would have been helpful for her to have a ruler or a quarter or something to give a stronger real sense of size, but vireos construct like that--a dangly nest suspended on branches like that.
And her 4" is consistent with vireos.
But I don't have a sense of the habitat to know which species of vireo.
Probably Red-eyed Vireo.
