Quick Update

Uncle Pea (Mom's brother, actually, so maybe he should be identified as Uncle . . . Kumquat? . . . I dunno!)  Anyway, he called Mama Pea on Thanksgiving morning to wish her holiday greetings and to say . . . . "My niece hasn't posted in 11 days!"  Yup - guilty.  And there's no particular reason other than busyness, tired(ness?!), and . . . how much do y'all really want to hear about the ongoing Move?!!!

Weather-wise, it's been extremely mild.  Until Thanksgiving night.  Forecasters told us to expect high winds, temperatures dropping into the low 20s, and a couple inches of snow.  But, considering it was in the HIGH 40s (!!!!) all that day, we all thought, "Uh-huh.  Sure.  We'll believe it when we see it."

The winds started in as we were finishing Thanksgiving dinner and then the rain came.  As I left Mom & Dad's just at 10:00 PM for my little cabin, I had to pop my head back in to say, "It's changing to snow!"

And, even though it didn't snow tons (couple of inches down by the lake and at least 5" up over the hill), the wind somehow spread it all out so that it looks like the middle of winter already.  Just like that!  In town, all the streets are covered, even after the plowing, and there are piles of snow at the ends of each parking lot.  It's 13 degrees this morning, and chill-eeee!

I vacillate (love that word!) between being pickled tink that winter is here on account of I LOVE winter . . . and wondering, with no small amount of anxiety, "Hmm, what's out there under the snow up at Swamp River Ridge that I hadn't yet sorted through and piled up in order to move?!"  I have faith that we'll have a couple more days in the 40s before the move has to be complete, though, when some of that stuff will be unearthed.

And, with that, I have to get ready for work.  I hope it's busier than Black Friday was - I think the weather kept some people tucked in.  It was too busy for me to work on paperwork or start a project but not busy enough that I didn't have many, many moments of absolute boredom, desperately searching for a customer to help or SOMEthing to do!

The view out the south window of the cabin yesterday morning.

    1. I know who you are, silly! (But it's good to be reminded that I do have readers waiting to hear what I have to say, which is hard to believe from time to time!) And, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! :)

  3. I love those who love winter--there is something special about this quiet time of year--at least out in nature. Why do you like Winter? I lived in Wisconsin for many, many years and would x-country ski, ice skate, run, etc. There is something about living in four distinct seasons that adds so much to a person's life. I am not speaking for everyone! And your cabin photo made me relax and remember what it's like to be out in the woods in the winter. Enjoy!
