Quick Update before Bed

Well, I am feeling better.  Definitely.  And, more so as the day's gone on.  I didn't have to take the la-la-land pain killers this AM:  ibuprofen did the trick.  And, I was no longer in extreme pain . . . just felt really, really sick.  Sooooo weak this AM.  But, like I said, I've felt better as the day's progressed.  Maybe that's psychological because I've made the decision that I HAVE to go back to work tomorrow.  But, I got a good nap in today and then managed to get the poster for the upcoming art festival finished.  That was a necessity (since it should have been done about a week ago).

I also woke up to the first snow of the year this morning!

There'd been enough snow down by the lake on October 29th to definitely qualify as the "first of the year", but this morning's was the first for Swamp River Ridge.  It's a very strange feeling - feeling stressed about the snow for the very first time.  Normally, I act like it's Christmas morning with the first snow of the year!  But, this year, with no money for the gas-sucking plow truck and with the back-up plow truck still out of commission, I'm scared.  My financial situation isn't even funny.  Matter of fact, it's downright scary.  I've been writing a blog post about it in my head, so you should see that shortly.

This job at the Roe House, while I do enjoy it and it gives me SOME hours, is not what it was advertised to be.  I.e., 40 hours a week plus all the overtime I could put in.  Much of it is the late spawning this year thanks to the warm temperature of the lake.  But, too, the boss has hired SO many people (maybe because so many of us are getting sick? - ha!) that we are all only getting somewhere between 3 and 5 hours a day, on average.  The most I've worked so far in a single day is only 6 hours!  I can't help but wonder if her thinking is that this gives a little money to a lot of people . . . but I know many of us (especially those of us who have been there since the beginning) would rather work longer days (with fewer co-workers).  At any rate, it's aggravating . . . especially when I'm driving 2 hours for that short work day.

Anyway, I have to make some financial changes . . . and pronto.  And what a time of the year to have to do it:  going right into the holidays.  But, I know that as soon as I have money coming in on a regular basis, my stress load will be GREATLY reduced.  I just don't know how much longer I can keep putting creditors off.  But, as I said, more on that to come in another post.

I'll leave you with the additional fox pictures from the other day.  Unfortunately, none of them turned out very well as I was taking the photos through the dirty car window.  But, more than anything, I thought I'd share them so you could see how completely disinterested Mr./Ms. Fox was in yours truly!  ;)

  1. Thanks for posting so much, lately! I'd really missed your posts, but I completely understand being too busy to do it. I'll take what I can, when YOU can! And, I am so relieved that you are feeling better....that picture was really terrible! Nice props, btw...I'm honored to be mentioned!
FYI, if it would be helpful to you, I can research standard antibiotics for standard ailments and their costs, so you could possibly ask about getting a cheaper one next time.

  3. Winter is not for the faint of heart - or the empty of pockets. You've got quite a dilemma, I know. Too bad you can't work from home to make enough to at least cover your basics until the worst (weather) is past. We are rooting for you!

  4. I certainly sympathize, I've been having to explain repeatedly to the kids why they can't go see Grandma and Grandpa this year and it's really starting to depress me. I know that it's the "smart" decision to stay home this year and be able to give them a nice small family Christmas vs. spending money we don't have on a credit card and then dealing with moody mommy later but of course they don't "get it". I hope things turn around for you soon, winter is an expensive time of year for sure. Glad you were feeling a little better!

  6. So glad the meds are doing their thing and making you feel better. And praying for the financial situation....I am in the same boat, too much needing to be done or paid for, and complete lack of cash.
