MaineCelt Hits The Nail On The Head!

Following . . . aagh, where are some glasses?  Okay, that's a little better.

Following a post on my mom's blog, MaineCelt made the following comment, " I think we should do an inspirational calendar of homesteading women with the tools of our trade: chainsaw, manure fork, scythe, etc."

Oh.  My.  Gawd.  That's IT!  MaineCelt, we're DOING IT!!!  And, with 6 months remaining before we'll all need a new calendar (ah-hem, those of us who actually CHANGE our calendars!), we have enough time!  Usually these brilliant ideas don't come down the pike until there's too much of a time constraint to do things right!

Okay, in my life as the chicken mama behind Chicken Mama Designs, I publish a calendar each year.  So, I have the contacts and where-with-all to make this happen!  Here's what we're gonna do:

(Hang on, need another Gin & Tonic - gawd, it's hot.)

Okay.  Offers would be appreciated, but I'll also take nominations of what woman homesteader you'd like to see represented!  Mama Pea and I will select our 13 favorite - one for the cover and one for each of (obviously) the months.

All proceeds will go to a donation we've all agreed upon.  I'll take suggestions for that, too!  God forbid any of us experience a catastrophe between now and then, but if one of you does - the funds raised go there.  Period.

Come December, I think it would be terrific, too, if each of us tried our best to promote it:  local newspapers, etc.  The more funds raised, the better we can support the recipient of our choice.

Oh, it's ON!  And I WILL hound you to take some terrific pictures and submit them!  Don't think I won't!

In that spirit, here are some (non-homesteading ones) of me throughout the years (and in no particular order):

  6. So tickled... I like this way better then the naked calendars so common in these here parts (hah!) Never could figure out why Mainers are so perpetually amused by naked locals.

With trust in the clothedness of the venture, I will be happy to contribute a photo or two or three. My tools: scythe, manure fork, and vintage hand-cranked seed-spreader.

  7. Ms. Apple Pie - HA! Caught you at not changing your calendar! Keep in mind, I expect YOU to be one of our Calendar Grrrls!! And, yes, I was laughing hysterically, all by myself, doing those pictures!

Judy, "so many favorites"? Start suggesting!!! And the "rock star looks suspiciously familiar"? Who?

Erin, I'll post my real "the higher the hair, the closer to God" picture. I'm proud to say mine was NEVER that high! ;)

    TinaH, :)

Tiny Gardener, send 'em in! Either comment here or send me an e-mail at mama @ chickenmamaoriginals dot com!

MaineCelt, there's been talk of doing one of those nude calendars with the unique men of this little berg I live in! And, I'm not opposed to anyone sending in a carefully-placed-homesteading-implement-nude for THIS calendar. ;) Can't WAIT to see your submissions!

  8. AHAH! Now I understand the yearbook photo trip down memory lane-- clearly the work (play) of a woman who's musing on the accomplishment of four decades on this fair green earth!

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY, WOMAN HOMESTEADER!!!

(I reached my four-decade mark in February. May glorious things unfold for you!)
