A Two Pimm's Snowfall

I took the truck today (Thursday) because 2-3" of snow was predicted.  Yes, you read that right:  two to three inches.  Woo-hoo, right?  (Dripping with sarcasm.)  But, the last time I went to The Peanut's house, I had to leave after a VERY brief visit due to the snow pelting down and the fact that I was driving the little Yaris.  I did NOT want a repeat of that.  I wanted all the stories before bed . . . all the "then can't we cuddle for just a little bit?"s . . . followed by Mommy & Me chat time . . . that I could get!

So, as we watched the snow accumulate on the deck throughout the evening, I didn't worry.  I.  Had.  The.  Truck.

A WONDERFULLY tender chicken casserole paired with a grapefruity Sauvignon Blanc followed our belated Christmas present opening.  Dessert was fresh-from-the-oven pumpkin bread dotted with melting chocolate chips.  Then, The Peanut's teeth were brushed, and her new footed jammies (covered with green frogs!) were on.

After giving her a little one-on-one lovin', her daddy headed out the door, fresh-from-the-stove-top-percolator espresso in hand.  (In addition to his own, VERY full-time business "day job" - which he'd arrived home from AFTER I'd gotten there* - he grooms the many, MANY kilometers of cross-country ski trails.)  Kissing his preggo wife ["you've got 3 more months of baby growth yet to go?!"], he headed out, saying that he should be home by 2:00.  A.M.!  (And then he'll get up bright and early to get back to work.)  This is what he does, every time it snows, in the wintertime!

*  Seeing that The Peanut's daddy hadn't yet gotten home when I arrived, I dropped the blade on the 1-Ton and plowed in their L-O-N-G driveway.  It felt good to know that I'd done at least a little something to help.  "Pay" for my dinner and all that.  ;)

The Peanut's mama and I had a great, overdue visit then, out at the dining room table.  Finally, knowing that I was tired and still had an hour's (HA!) drive ahead of me, I said my goodbyes.  We both dressed for the snow, headlamps strapped to heads:  me to start and clean off the truck, she to shovel and turn off the generator (they are off-grid, too).

Anyway, the point of all this (and I'm skipping to the end 'cause the Pimm's is finally doing its work, and my eyelids are drooping) is that it was another long, vision-restricted drive home.  2-3", my arse!  It's 3:26 AM as I write, and I've been home for just over an hour.  Lotsa snow out there!  But, it's beautiful, and this is what I love.  The Pimm's has helped my brain unwind from the strain of driving through the snow, and I know a heating pad is waiting upstairs on those Polarfleece sheets to try to unwind the knots from my back.

And, with that, it's off to bed I go!  (No, I'm NOT gonna make myself get up with a 6:45 AM alarm.)

  1. So, is that Pimm's as in Pimm's Cup? I always thought of that as a summer drink - but what the heck do I know? I am glad you were able to have a great visit and make it home in one piece! Friday mornings are for sleeping in.
