To Do List, Version 437

I know this is incredibly mundane for many of you, but posting my To Do list and going back to comment within it as my day progresses REALLY helps me get things done (being accountable to someone, and all that).  So, here goes:
  • Washing, packing, and invoicing eggs, 1 hour at a time until they are ALL done and ready for mass delivery tomorrow.  Three dozen done & invoiced.  Got iced tea made, pasta cooked for salad for dinner, cottage cheese pressing and another batch cooking, hummer feeder hung.
  • 1 Hour vacuumingPlus some, DONE!  The stairs have been yelling at me for WEEKS!  Got them done plus all the rugs.  Got the utility room half done (Shop-Vac) before quitting.
  • 1 Hour local art festival website work.
  • 1 Hour Chicken Mama's Graphic & Web Design work.
  • 1 Hour (2, if possible) dishes & kitchen clean up.  Also, cleaned the refrig out a bit, took compost out, kitchen scraps to chickens.  Spied one lone chick on the OUTSIDE of the far side of the fence, so got the dogs into the garage before they (Tucker) saw it, then scratched through underbrush & woods (wearing shorts, for the first time, of course) to try to corral it.  Made full circumference of fence before finally coaxing it in through the open door (while hoping none of it's brothers or sisters hopped OUT).  Got a bit more of the grass cut while I was out (chickens were begging for clippings).  Got hummer feeder soaking in vinegar while sugar water cools on the stove.  Next up, egg cleaning (in cold water to cool ME off) and hummer feeder hanging.
  • 1 Hour Secret Stuff (the recipients are regular readers).
  • 2 Hours Chicken Mama Originals cards for floral shop consignment restocking.
  • 1 Hour logging road work.
  • Make laundry detergent (I've been out for more than 2 weeks, I think, and the pile of laundry is getting HIGH).
  • Wash inside & out of front, south-facing kitchen window.  Wash, install screen.
Ready?  Set . . . GO!!

Update:  It's almost 7:00 PM as I sit here eating homemade cottage cheese with fresh chives and an iced tea (with a touch o' whiskey & Canada Dry).  There are a few things I still have to (as in "need" to) get done today, so I'll need to prioritize my remaining 3 hours before "quiet time" in bed.

7:00 - 8:00  Return call to papa.  Then, make dinner (pasta salad).  Work on eggs w/ any remaining time.
8:00 - 8:30  Local art festival website - at least get the incorrect time changed!!!
8:30 - 10:00  Chicken Mama Originals cards ready to restock tomorrow.

Okay.  "Ring, Ring!  Ring, ring!  Dad?"

  2. Have you seen any hummers yet? We saw one at one of our feeders yesterday morning . . . but so far, he/she's the only one.

  3. My goodness, I'm exhausted just reading your list. I'm still looking for "1 hour -- sitting in the tub with a great book and a cup of tea/cocktail just taking a moment out for ME"
Let me know when you cross that one off your list :)
How many eggs are you selling weekly? I know it sounds ungrateful but I really don't like washing eggs. It's just one of those chores that I put off. Funnily, I don't mind cutting grass, even though I'm trying to reduce the amount we have. The place just looks so much nicer with cut grass... and the smell... mmm :)

  4. Claire, maybe I'll make this afternoon's soap a new post (with pictures). Stay tuned! It's ALL I use any more and is DIRT CHEAP (when laundry detergent is SO freakin' expensive in the store)!!!

Mom, nope, nuthin' yet. They're late this year.

Fiona, oh, I'll get that in there . . . it just doesn't look as good if I include that! ;) But, for you, I will.

I don't have a huge amount of eggs weekly right now because I only have 9 layers. But, considering their combined age, they're doing pretty well. I do have quite a backlog now, though, 'cause, I, too, don't particularly love washing eggs. Oh, well. Better than shoveling . . . . Well, you know. ;)

  5. Busy girl, now who's certifiable? LOL! I've been meaning to ask you about your line drying. It's been over a year now since I've purchased detergent so that's awesome, but the vinegar softener I make doesn't do the trick when it comes to clothesline dried softness, do you use storebought softener still for keeping things soft on the line?

  6. Wow, girl! :) Miss you lots! We're just about ready to lay formal "school" aside for the year. Hopefully I'll have a chance to see you after that!

  7. Okay, I don't actually know what an egg looks like straight out of the chicken for comparison, but I often end up washing the eggs I buy from the grocery store (in Egypt) before I use them because they have feathers and...other stuff... stuck to them! Not my favorite chore so sometimes I take the dirtiest looking ones and just hard boil them :)
