Pictures

I haven't posted any pictures in an age, and I don't have any super new ones . . . but here are some miscellaneous ones, nonetheless.

Last month:  gallons of sweet maple sap waiting to be boiled down into syrup.  Or, "syr-pup" as The Peanut says.

I've had the good fortune to have said Peanut for a few overnights lately, and, the last time she was out, she helped me do morning chores, her cast protectively wrapped in a bread bag.  Here she is, holding one of the new Partridge Rock chicks.

She found part of my LP record collection.  "Can we play these?"  (We did!)  And, it gave me the opportunity to vacuum out a VERY dirty storage area and then sort the vinyl.

One of my favorite pictures of Mom at ye ol' Harvest Homestead (our farmstead where I grew up).

And, lastly, Daddy & me making root beer!  (Erin, I'll get a how-to post goin' one of these days, but it's not hard at all . . . I mean, YES, it's extreeeeeemely difficult!  Anyone who can pull it off is SUPER talented!)  ;p

Oh, also of note:  see the two windows behind us?  They're covered by sheets of foam insulation.  Mom and Dad moved Aunt Jo's old trailer home up - which had NO insulation - and added on to it.  So, in the wintertime, Mom had to give up light in lieu of warmth.  (Mom, seems like it's been an age since you wrote a "good ol' days" story on your blog.  Hint, hint!)

  1. Ah yes, the 'good old days.' :o) Ya know what the sad thing is about that picture of you and your dad making root beer? HE STILL HAS THE SAME SHIRT!!!

  2. What a cute pic of the Peanut! Love, love the old pics, and I can't even imagine the old trailer with no insulation in the winter - how did Mama Pea keep that smile on her face, LOL? That is dedication to a lifestyle! And the Root Beer, yum! I hear it's easier than brewing, but I have never done it. I should now since we started kegging the ale in the recycled little soda kegs, now I have cases of empty washed bottles waiting for the next project! Yes, it's time for another post from you mom about the good ol' days. BTW, I saw the pic of a goat? pulliing the kids in a wagon on FB when you were little and I laughed so hard since it reminded me of being a kid growing up in the country - we would do some of the strangest things (to a city kid) for fun! Good stuff...

  3. Erin, being pulled in a wagon by a goat is . . . strange? ;p Honestly, though, I'm so glad you made that point! It WOULD seem bizarre to city kids . . . AND adults! I'll post about it. Just for you.

P.S. How did Mama Pea cope with the living conditions (and there is SO much more - no money, no interaction with adults, etc., etc.)? I'll betcha, dollars to donuts, she'd say, "'Cause I was young and dumb!" ;)
