Birthdays!

Today and tomorrow (see, aren't I clever - writing on the CUSP of both?!) are big birthdays around here.

Today (August 17th) is the ONE WEEK BIRTHDAY of the newest, sweetest little baby boy to ever fall from the sky. I have yet to meet him, but his mama is my oldest friend. I hear she calls him Owl. ;) Anyway, the little owl and his mama and daddy have all had a really rough first week of it . . . but now all signs are pointing up! So, let's all think super positive thoughts for getting Little E home in his own beddie-by. Here's a sweet picture of him with his happy daddy.

Secondly, today is the birthday of this gorgeous woman! I won't say which number it is, but she makes it look easy! We two families (hey, Tom and I make up a family!) have been trying to get together for a cook-out down on the beach . . . but between scheduling conflicts and the way the days seem to go by now . . . ACK! But, a birthday celebration is definitely in store for when we DO finally roast those marshmallows! (And, in the meantime, I LIVE for our weekly visits - thank you, T!)

Then, tomorrow (a mere 6 minutes from now, as I'm writing) brings two more special birthdays: this fellow's, and my papa's! ('Fellow's? Can you make a pronoun possessive?) Anyway, I digress . . . .

Here he is, holding his & his wonderful wife's little peanut - now almost 9 months old (and, not so coincidentally, the little peanut for whom I nanny). I've known this local birthday boy and his family forever, and Tom and I hold them all very dear!

Finally . . . the most important birthday of all: my papa's! He's closer to 70 now than 60 which is unbelievable to look at him and/or watch what he does! But, for a man who believes he's gonna live to be 126 . . . he'd BETTER look good! :) I love this picture of him back in Illinois about . . . oh . . . 65 years ago, I'd say?

Mom and Dad came out this afternoon, and we had planned to all get in some target practice, but the heat really made everyone feel logy and not-like-being-outside. It was our hottest day up here, by far, and - even now at midnight - it's still 76 degrees. YUCK! Mis-er-a-ble!!! But, the real low point of the afternoon was Dad discovering the wasp nest out by the trapper cabin . . . but not before he got nailed by 2 or 3 of them! By dinner time, he wasn't feelin' so great (nor were his fingers or forearm lookin' too good). Ouch! But, we had a nice dinner all together (although cooking in the kitchen wasn't very fun today): Burgundy Meatballs & a fancy potato dish I make (no good name for it) plus fresh Yellow / Butter Beans from Mom's garden. And then, of course, there was the requisite Blueberry Pie for the birthday cake. (And, many thanks to B & J for SHARING all those SWEET wild blueberries with us!)

Anyway, I'll sign off for now and TRY to get some sleep. Somehow, I don't think sleep's gonna be very easy tonight in these temps . . . .
