It's Official: Fall is Here!

If we had pumpkins in the garden this year . . . or a garden, period . . . I could say that there was "frost on the pumpkin" this morning. As it is, I CAN say that the bird bath was frozen and that there was a little female Purple Finch sitting on top of the ice trying to peck through to get her morning drink!

Yesterday morning brought the first snow flurries of the year
(just a couple here and there), but the mercury dropped down to 27.7 last night! So, the dates for our "First Frost" and "First Killing Frost" entries are the same for 2007 - the former being a little over a week early and the latter being a full three weeks early! But, this is also the first year our readings are being taken here at Swamp River Ridge instead of down at Hastings-on-the-Lake, and being "over the hill" makes such a difference, weather-wise (hotter in the summer and colder in the winter).

Well, time to get on with the day. There are dishes to do (do they reproduce overnight?!) and wood to haul in for the cookstove . . . among other things.
