Fall Temps Are Here!

There's a wheelbarrow in our house. Not the oddest thing that's ever been in here, but strange just the same. Last night, with freezing temps threatening, Tom rolled it in because it's full of houseplants that a friend gave him. When Tom unloaded them from his car, he put them in there for the ride down to the house. Now, they're awaiting my attention for repotting.

Speaking of temps, I just made myself the first pot of tea of the season. It's cooooold in here! Last night was our coolest so far: it was 32.2 degrees when the alarm went off at 6:00 this morning and now, even with the sun streaming in, it's only 59 in the house. Brrrr! I've had the cookstove corkin' away in the kitchen for two days, but, as I've mentioned before, the heat from it doesn't circulate throughout the rest of the house. Even though it seems a bit early, and several warm days are sure to happen yet this fall, we're considering firing up the Central Boiler for the fall/winter/spring season so that we have heat in the house. On the other hand, we've moved the antique coal-burning stove into the space where the fireplace will eventually go, and, once we get the stovepipe installed (it still needs to be purchased), we'll have that heat source, too. So, if we can get that going in the next week or two, we can avoid firing up the wood furnace for a few weeks yet.
