When Tom was gone to Phoenix and Sedona last month, I took the extra time for a couple of nice, long walks. My first one, two weeks ago today, was my last of the year (or so I thought) down the frozen river. We'd been getting a good amount of rain, and that - coupled with the melting power from the heat of the sun - made for a good three inches of water sitting on top of the ice. Here and there would be holes that had melted out from around a reed or shoot coming up from the muddy river's floor. That's what you see in this picture by my rubber-booted feet.
