8 October 2006: We took some time and hiked our trail down to the Pigeon River Sunday afternoon. The logging operation that's on the 40 directly behind us goes right through the trail, so we were on a mission to find it on the other side of the cut. And, neither of us had been down to the river in an age - not since New Year's for me, given our last 10 months! In an older logging cut north of the 40 that's currently being cut, the poplar saplings springing up are about 2 feet over our heads now. The last of the leaves were clinging to the tops of them, creating a golden coin display in the late-day sun.
