Wet and 49 degrees - what's new?

Good Morning!

My tulips are up high enough to prove that they will actually have blossoms . . . but we're quite a few days away from seeing any color! Our dear friends to the east of us arrived last week for the summer and brought a bunch of lilacs from their yard near the Cities. I almost fell over. Lilacs are my ALL-TIME favorite flower, and my pathetic little bushes here have only just popped their buds with 1/8" leaves barely beginning to open. But, the rain is turning the grass greener every day and even the trees are showing more of the same. Now all we need is some SUN!

I've been waiting to hear if the bears are around yet. To be sure, they would have come out of hibernation quite a while ago, but we usually leave our (bird) feeders up during the night until we hear of their appearance locally. Well, the same neighbors had one a week ago tonight, so we have begun the spring-summer-and-fall ritual of taking the feeders in each night and putting them out again in the morning. Many people stop feeding the birds altogether in the summer months, but we enjoy seeing them up close too much!

The last couple of days have been a flurry of frantic Swamp River Ridge House deskwork, last-minute trips to town to make deposits and transfers (those checks are being written all too quickly!), and one exhausting trip to Duluth to purchase the Central Boiler brand outdoor furnace and a new, larger chainsaw for Chainsaw Tommy . . . as well as the usual appointments, Target shopping, etc. We decided to go with the charcoal grey for the furnace. As "industrial" as it may look, it will match the color of the garage which it will sit next to. And, I have a sneaky feeling that I'll eventually want a nice fence built around it to disguise the utilitarian-ness of the whole operation, anyway: furnace, wood, etc.
Today I am getting more detailed information out to our masonry/cement guy as well as floorplans to the Central Boiler distributor who is, coincidentally, a heating and cooling system installer. He will draw up the layout for our in-floor heating for free! Now all we need is the weather to cooperate. A rainy summer doesn't bode well for cement work!
