Misty and 46 degrees with blue trying to show through overcast skies.

Yesterday was fishing opener. How many of you fellow Minnesotans made it out? It was a cold, wet, and dreary day - I'm glad I wasn't sitting in a metal boat out in the middle of a lake! Brr! Instead we opted for a little river fishing. No luck, though. Either we had the wrongs lures or the fish weren't biting. Or both. At any rate, it was the first time we'd been out actually on opener, and it was a great excuse to spend some down time with Mother Nature!

Tom had headed up to our property bright and early yesterday morning to do some work, and, after I got some chores done around here, I packed up the fresh cottage cheese I'd made Friday and the egg salad I'd just made using both our guinea and chicken eggs. Threw in a fresh loaf of bread, some other odds and ends from the refrig, and a bottle of wine, and we had ourselves one yummy post-fishing dinner! Tom and Maisy spent the night at the trapper cabin and reported lightly falling snow when he called in this morning!

We also got quite a few large trees cut down yesterday on the spur driveway we're putting in off the main driveway. It runs about 260' north, and it's where we'll skid the trapper cabin to (which needs to happen SOON). We'll also store extra vehicles (plow truck, etc.) there when not in use. And, it's where Tom will have his sleddogs . . . should that lifelong dream of his ever come into fruition.

We're buying the outdoor wood burner for the new place on Tuesday, and now the big question is: what color?! Feel free to weigh in! We have it down to 3 choices: grey (which would match the house stain but looks fairly industrial), green (which would blend in to the surroundings during the leafed-out months), or brown (which may - or may not? - blend in to its surroundings the most during both the winter and summer).

Well, I played yesterday, so dishes and laundry and bill paying / budgeting and, and, and . . . are calling. Maybe some cookie baking this afternoon, too - it's one of those days!
