A cold, wet, unsuccessful fishing opener on international waters. Notice the beaver bench that Tom built last fall? Beavers had felled this large birch along the bank, limbed and topped it and took that wood, but the trunk of the tree was too large from them. So, Tom built a great little bench for us on the river! (Notice how high the water is right now!) Also, see the stripped bark in the sapling behind the bench? That's a scrape from a moose last fall when he was trying to get the itchy velvet off his antlers.

  1. Congrats on actually getting out on opening day of fishing . . . even though it turned out to be opening day of plunking lures in the water.

Dare I say that dear, sweet red puppy of yours looks one sandwich short of a picnic sitting in the river??

As for the color of your outdoor furnace, all three of us here (the dog voted, too) put in our vote for the gray color. 1) It will match the color of the house, and 2) it will blend into the woods for the greater part of the year.

Keep writing . . . we enjoy reading your entries.

  2. Dear Piercer Queen,

Don'tcha mean 'Piecer' Queen? Last I knew, you were supposed to piece the fabric . . . not pierce it.
