I'm (Em)Powered!

So.  I have some news.  Some big news.  Some uber big news.  Some uberly, monumentally blast-tastic news!

I have (are you ready for it?) . . . ELECTRICITY IN THE CABIN!!!!!!!

In a casual conversation that Papa Pea recently had with the owners of this little cabin, he learned that electricity HAD once been run to it . . . but never actually installed.  Would they be willing to allow him/us to go ahead and install it?  The answer?  Yes!  Anything to help me, they said.  (Another post in the making is the unbelievable amount of selfless help I've been receiving lately!!)

The timing couldn't have been more perfect as Mama & Papa Pea are working on an electrical project of their own right now, so all the supplies & equipment needed were readily available.  So, Papa Pea came to my little hacienda in the woods and installed the fuse box and a single outlet (more can be added later).  Because the cabin was finished w/o electricity, the wires will need to be run on the interior of the paneling, but that's okay - that's what those little metal channel thingies are made for.  And I can paint them from their industry grey to whatever shade I want.

I tell you, having electricity really makes having no running water NO problem!  If I want, I could eventually install a pump into a holding (water) tank to create pressurized water.  Things like that:  the options are endless, as long as you think inventively!  (Is that a word:  inventively?!)

And, the wire that was run up here way back when is a full-size, heavy-grade one, so I'm not even limited by the amounts of watts I can use.  I've even tweaked the layout of the porch enclosure to include my full-size refrig and upright freezer from home!!  Talk about convenience!  I'm gonna be sittin' pretty!!

Now, here's a picture of the first night I arrived "home" to find POWER:

The only perceived "down side" of this is that I'll now have an electricity bill (paying the owners the new difference in usage), but I CAN HANDLE THAT!!!  :)

And, with that, I'm off to do some vacuuming - the first time this little cozy place has EVER seen such an invention!

  1. I am lichen that light! Heehee. I am also lichen your new header pic. Having electricity will sure make living there easier. I assume your water source is protected from freezing? It is a nice, snug little cabin CM. You will certainly make a nice home out of it. The owners must love you!

  4. Electricity! I agree--better to have electricity than running water! When my family first moved to the Baraboo Hills in south central Wisconsin we used an outhouse for awhile (when the weather was agreeable) and a port-a-potty in the winter. I'm so excited for you that things are beyond the fork in the road! And you have such great parents.
