Written on Sunday

I wrote this on Sunday morning when I was off-line . . . and then completely forgot to post it!!!

Happy Sunday!

Yesterday was the coldest, nastiest day I remember in several winters.  (But, I just realized that, for ALL the past winters, I’ve been a homemaker and not out IN it.)

Anyway, we’re in a cold snap.  Days in the single digits or barely crawling up to 11 degrees, the nights in the double digits below zero.  But, the WIND!  Ohhhh, it has been SO nasty!  My Girl and I had lunch together yesterday after not having seen each for TOO LONG (probably about 2 weeks), and, afterwards, even though she had less than a block back to work, she said as we were walking back outside, “I’m gonna hug you now and then . . .”  I finished, “Run?”  Yep – it was BITTER!  When I got to Mama & Papa Pea’s after work to pick up the dogs, I took my bag of Emergency Gear inside and immediately pulled my insulated Carhartts on over my work pants . . . just for the drive home (okay, and walk down to the house when I got there)!

HAPPILY, the in-floor heat pumps have been doing just fine during the long hours I’m away during the day, and that’s a huge relief!  Of course, the house feels sooo cold these nights (and is!) with the heat off all day.  Last night, it was down to 48 when I got home, and, even with the pumps back on and fires in all three of the wood stoves, I only got it up to 52 degrees by bedtime.  This morning, it’s down to 50 in here, and my fingers are COLD as I write this.  Speaking of which (the cold), I should go turn on the electricity.  Even though I have the fires up and going again, and the sun is brightly shining, I need to remember that I need to keep the hot water moving through the lines not just for comfort but to prevent freezing!  Bah – I HATE “wasting” electricity!  Will be back . . . .

Wednesday morning again.

Re-reading this, ha!  So much for "will be back"!

I'm glad today is my last day before a day off.  For some reason, and even though the days at work have gone quickly (busy, busy), it feels like it's been a long stretch.

I'm trying to not be too disappointed about tomorrow and the lack of work I'm gonna get done, but it's for a good reason:  the replacement, used inverter is going to be installed in the morning!

And, with that, I gotta run.

Have a good day!

  2. Oh man, thought we had it bad this past weekend with the single digits during the day and a bit below zero at night. Thankfully it is warming up this week.
How exciting to have the inverter done, that will take a lot of stress off your mind. Please keep us updated!

  4. So weird! It is positively balmy down here, almost to the point of raining! We've gotten so little condensation this year that it's going to make for a very interesting summer. Can't imagine the southern MN farmers are very happy about that.
    Good luck with the inverter!
