A Good Day

Believe it or not, and despite the news about my electrical system, I had a good day yesterday!  It was sunny but cold, and, even though I couldn't make USE of the sun for electricity, I did enjoy it!

I was well-organized (using the laptop when the generator was off during the day), and got a decent start on some Chicken Mama Originals work.  Papa Pea replaced my ooold, worn-out chainsaw chain with a brand spankin' new one on Friday, and I am IN LOVE!  I'd never used a brand new one before, and even cutting up maple was like slicing through buttah.  I've always "enjoyed" wood cutting, but it was a CINCH yesterday, and I got way more cut than usual.  Whenever she feels I particularly need a pick-me-up, Mama Pea buys me a container of fresh mozzarella balls from a store in town.  After yesterday, I told her that I want to exchange that treat out for brand new chainsaw chains from now on!  Ha!!  (Too bad they aren't the same price as the cheese!)

In the waning light of day and before I turned the generator on to run in the dark evening hours before bed, I got the 4.5 mile winter driveway "clean-up" plowed AND the road up to the trapper cabin and then down to the Back 40 opened up.  I've got some Sheetrock stored in the old Suburban back there that I want to access yet this winter, so keeping it open is a priority.  (And, I hadn't had a chance to do that since the last snow.)

Got some work on the big computer done last night as well as some ironing (taking advantage of the electricity) for work clothes this week.

Have e-mails in to all the required people regarding quotes for the HOPED inverter replacement from the insurance company.  Crossing my fingers that my insurance might replace the batteries, too.  Dunno WHY I didn't think of contacting them before about that!

Did some shoveling of paths, too; a batch of dog food made; some MUCH-NEEDED cleaning in the garage while the off-grid guy was here; a small amount (but still helpful!) of cleaning done in the house while it was still light; AND a batch of laundry washed and dried while the generator was on.  Oh, and took a shower.  ;)  So, all in all, it was a solidly productive day, and those kinda days make me feel GOOD!

I hope YOUR Monday is good, DESPITE whatever struggles you may be facing!

Cheers from a chilly Swamp River Ridge (below zero this AM).

  2. Sounds like you were productive and I love that you can see the problem with your solar panel thingie (that is the technical term, right?) as a challenge to overcome - and I am quite sure that you will overcome it. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other and things will work out. Maybe you can even find someone to do a swap with?? I see those ads in the "city" newspaper up there all the time. Can't hurt to ask!

  3. I'm so glad you're able to keep from letting your situation get you down. :) Hang in there, friend! I'm praying it all works out with the insurance.

  4. You were a busy bee! I'm glad you can still carry on - and I, too, am hoping that the insurance covers both the inverter and the batteries! After putting out all that money, year after year, it's nice to get some benefit from it when you really need it.

  5. They are going to replace it? That's amazing! Hope it goes well, remember though the cost will depreciate and minus the deductible, and then your renewal price will go up. so make sure it's worth the deductible price. I had a visual of you tromping through snow drifts with sheetrock LOL, yes definitely keep that road clear :)

  6. We had our inverter go belly-up a few years back. My hubby talked with the company and we got it replaced at a very deep discount. Might wanna try that approach along with your insurance.-"M"
