One Small Gain

Written Wednesday:

When I was at the court house yesterday, I finally filed all the paperwork to have my name changed.  The only reason I've not yet done it is the cost.  But, planning for the impending business purchase, I wanted to be "up-to-date" with my name.

So, the court clerk filled out her portion of the paperwork and then asked me for $320.00.  Yup, that's how much it costs to change your name.  On the other hand, I can change it to anything I want!  Maybe 'Chicken Mama' legally?  ;)

Anyway, after the initial shock of losing this incredible business opportunity settled last night, I realized that I was out a very important $320 . . . for no huge reason.  And, right now, I certainly can't afford to toss money around willy-nilly.  After all, I wasn't even going to go back to my maiden name after the divorce.  It was only after learning of the ex's "extra-curricular activities" that I knew I had to.  Wanted to.  Would.

And will.  Just not right now.  I e-mailed and called my friend in the court administration office this morning and asked if she hadn't already deposited my check and could the paperwork be pulled?  She hadn't and it can.  And has been.

So, chalk one up for our side:  $320 saved for now.

  2. It sure pays to have friends in government! If it had been in NY, that check would have been direct-deposited. A little seed of something good! And you know what they say....from a little acorn...

  4. That is just bizarre - it didn't cost me anything other than a few fees for getting a new driver's license to change my name when I got married, so why should it cost so much for you to change it back?

(I wish you would have mentioned it when I was still in town, I'd have started taking up a collection for you and been the first to contribute!! LOL)

  5. WOW! That is crazy! It's not nearly that here!

No worries...it's not the name that makes the person.

If you are familiar with me and where I live, please respect my right to retain some anonymity by not referring to me by anything other than Chicken Mama nor mentioning city/town/villages by place names. Thanks!
