Last year, this bird built an unproductive nest against the gunnel of my upside-down canoe stored in the rafters of the woodshed. This year, she built her (productive!) nest several feet away on top of the light over the people door to the garage. I'm AMAZED at how large the nestlings are already because I never O-N-C-E heard them utter a peep! (Which, I guess, is part of their safety camouflage in the wild!) I was worried that she had unfertilized eggs this year, too . . . until I saw all of them sitting up there one day! She has at least 2 in her brood if not 3.
Each time I come around the corner of the garage, I call out, "I'm comin' to do chores (or whatever), Mama!" Just to give her a heads-up, you know.
But, now for the identification! Ruthie? I think she's an (Eastern?) Phoebe. Anyone?
That just looks like regular ol' swallow to me, we have them everywhere like rodents LOL. Ask your bird lady in town, that radio show makes me chuckle every time I listen to it!
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking Eastern Wood-Pewee. Can't wait to check out the new blog! How exciting!
