In Body & In Spirit

My Girl stayed overnight Saturday; we were much overdue for a catch-up.  Too, she felt a little down when we were leaving town so suggested we rent a movie in case we didn't feel like talking all evening.  Fast forward to yesterday, and my all-too-real awareness that, while I may feel like I can keep up with an 18-year old in spirit . . . I sure CAN'T in "body"!  Ugh and double ugh!

We talked ALL night Saturday night.  And, that's not just a cleverly descriptive way of putting it.  I remember asking, at one point, if she wanted to go upstairs to watch the movie or stay down in the sunroom, talking?  "Both!" she replied.  When we DID head up to the library to watch Matt Damon in 'The Informant', I slipped into my bedroom/bathroom to use the facilities, passing the clock as I did.  I grabbed it on my way back to the library and demanded, "Okay!  WHAT TIME do you think it is???"  My Girl smiled and said, "I dunno.  Probably about 3:00?"  It was 6:00 AM!!!  By the time we were settled with drinks and munchies and blankets in front of the TV, it was 6:40.

Shortly after the movie started, I heard suspiciously steady and deep breathing from the chair where My Girl had settled.  Yup, she was OUT.  With a smile, I hunkered back down on the couch and promptly fell asleep myself.  I woke up when the movie was done, put another blanket on My Girl, and toddled downstairs to clean up a bit.  Then, I went back upstairs and crawled into bed.  The last time I looked at the clock, it was 8:40.

A whole bunch of nothing followed, yesterday.  My Girl watched movies, I napped.  Then, in the afternoon, I dug the Yaris out from where I'd parked it last Wednesday night during the snowstorm, and took her the ½ way in to town to her sister's where she would be reunited with her now-repaired car.

I think I know the answer to my debate of this past Saturday:  to relax and take the time for the overnight or not, that was the question.  I'm super glad we had the wonderful night together (I sure do love that girl!), but my nearly 40-year old body just does NOT recover from all-nighters any more.  Oi vey.

  1. I feel your pain. Thanksgiving evening, my sister (3 yrs younger) and nephew (MANY yrs younger) were watching the new Alice in Wonderland and she and I were barely able to keep our eyes open until 8:30! Meanwhile, my nephew can keep going until sunrise. It's fun to burn the midnight oil every once in a while, but you sure pay for it. And you're just a youngster!

  2. I can barely keep my eyes open past 8 pm anymore. I have NO CLUE how you managed to do an all-nighter. Gosh, though, I do remember doing that. Ah, youth!

  3. Sounds like you had a great time though, even if you have to pay for it a little! You've gotta do that every so often... :)

  4. I can't do it either! Well, I CAN... but I'd feel like hell and it's not worth it... lessons learned!
