And This Is Why I Live Here . . . .

I began nannying for my third little peanut today, a 4-month old little girl. I wasn't supposed to start until May 9th, but, besides today, I have three more dates booked this month. I ended up working a 10-hour day and was away from Swamp River Ridge for just over 14 hours. Driving home, I was so tired that my teeth ached. And then . . . .

  • I turned off the main road onto our winter driveway and saw that the road had dried up CONSIDERABLY.
  • And then I saw a big bull moose.
  • And when I got out of the truck, the air (48 degrees at 8:45 PM) was much balmier and spring-like than it had been down at the lake; and it felt wonderful as I did chores, my headlamp cutting into the dark.
  • And then I noticed that we had lost no less than about a foot of snow today.
  • And then a satellite blinked overhead among the stars.
  • And then a pair of Canadian geese flew over the chicken yard, and those wild birds and my domestic ones said hello.
And that is why I live here.
