The second retirement celebration of the day happened in Dad's classroom as soon as school was released and the kids were "outta there!" The principal - truly with a heart of gold and believing that she was about to pull the 2nd one of the day over on Mr. S (but, of course, he had been tipped off to ALL the day's "surprises") - hid everyone in the teacher's lounge so that we could all be paraded into his classroom as a "total surprise". ;)
But, it really was nice in the sense of all the trouble that the principal, teachers, and aides had gone to. Already-retired teaching peers of Dad's had been contacted, and everyone who could make it did. I'd say there were at least 50 or 60 people in attendance. One of the aides made this yummy carrot cake - what an artiste!
