I had to make a town run yesterday, and, on my way home, I passed through a slough where there's been lots of beaver activity lately. As I drove by, looking at the freshly downed trees, I noticed red dripping from each one. Blood?! Do beavers "teethe" and bleed from that? I stopped, put the car in reverse, and backed up to take a better look. I'm not sure exactly how or why it happens, but it seems as though something (beaver saliva??) mixing with the fresh birch sap (which is clear - I know that) produces this dark pink color! How s-t-r-a-n-g-e!
