February 1st Already!

It's been 5 days since we've had normalcy around here, and, by that I mean that there are no additional 2-leggeds or 4-leggeds around today. The little peanut we were dog sitting went back home to the Rez with Tom this morning, and now Maisy, Tucker, and Miss Kitty and I are adjusting to no longer having anyone to "worry about". How nice!

And, a double treat is that there are no longer workers milling about the place! The guys finished siding the garage on Tuesday, I think it was, and it looks terrific! Once the snow melts and the temps start to warm up, they'll be back to shingle the woodshed roof and apply the seam caulk to the garage siding. But, for now, Swamp River Ridge is all ours again! Aaah, bliss!

Utilities update: nearly every single outlet is installed and working downstairs, so convenience is no longer compromised. Upstairs, there are still some glitches with the electrical, so we have no outlets or lights in the guest bedroom which I am anxious to get into (since it will be my ironing room). No working lights in the hallways, closets, or bathroom, either, so it's still a bit dark up there where flashlights are required.

And, speaking of the master bathroom, we're crossing our fingers that we'll have a toilet and shower in there next week! The special waste assembly I'd ordered for the tub (the one thing that was holding installation up) had a back-order thrown on top of its late arrival date, so I finally asked the plumber if we could go to Plan B: put a temporary waste assembly in JUST SO THAT WE COULD FINALLY HAVE A SHOWER AT HOME?! (It's going on 5 months.) Yes, we can do that, but the plumber has been waylaid by the horrible bugs that have been going around . . . hence his earliest arrival of next week. I'll be sure to have the bathroom flooring ready to go in by then - that way he can hook up the shower/tub AND the toilet! No more tripping down the stairs in the middle of the night when we have to go to the bathroom!

Tom had a short business trip this week that took him away late Sunday as soon as his brother and crew left and brought him home late Tuesday night. But, while passing through the Cities, a stop at Hirshfield's for stain resulted in what looks to be a PERFECT match for the new window trim (we ordered the windows themselves pre-treated). So, yayy! Every little step is progress!
